I want to know what LED to use for my climate control and door lights (194, 74)? And which type of LED is the best (superstar)?

doors are 194 i believe, climate control are a little smaller than 74 bulbs and are not just plug n play into the twist socket thing, instead the 2 terminals wrap around the socket in a way that they contact against the circuit board, as for the defroster button's light, its an even smaller bulb which is mounted in the socket in the same manor as described, im contemplating just mounting led's in the bulbs place and constructing a circuit with built in resistors to work instead of a direct replacement, someone on her has to have done this before and must know more than i do, but thats my 2 cents from what i saw when i had it apart =)

for bulb replacement... i used superbright LED's from pep boys (come in packs of three) which have built in resistor to be wired straight to 12v, just run the wires out the back and to the fuse for the inside lights, indicator LED's are very small and can be found at radio shack but involve desoldering and soldering

I modified mine with led from autozone, they are superbright. Only problem light is emitted into one direction, and causes certain areas not to illuminate well. I used blue. I was able to replace an led into the defroster button, but it looks even brighter than the rest.
I am planning to buy some blue multidirectional LED from Ebay, to see if i can reverse this. For the defroster i will turn the led to face backwards to reduce intensity. As far as indicators go, http://www.lsdiodes.com/shop/ they have flat LED that you can solder/desolder if you have time and experience..... -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... for the heat/ac
http://superlumination.com/74.htm check out the Neo - Wedge i have a feeling that's the one (the toyota one is a 9.5mm ts, this is a 10mm, so that's damn close). i bought some, but i did my heat/ac before they were available and haven't found a good reason to get the unit out of the car again. |

WOW! That web sites great! I wish I had seen that before I bought #74 leds. I think I made them fit in the base so they will work though. |
