statistics show that most people who buy a gun for home protection end up never using it in that manor. accidental shootings, suicide or homicide are the most common result from buying a gun.

if you want to protect your home, buy a security system and better locks for your doors.

i want charts and graphs on this
cause you have nothing to back you up

i think 870 is gonna be the one i pick. I totally agree with you, if someone came into my home and endangered my family i'd definiately teach that punk a lesson he wouldn't soon forget.

My neighborhood ain't bad...its just i don't want to have to depend on cops coming to the rescue, they don't have the best track record in my city (not that cops are bad tho, just a LITTLE SLOW). Im not buying the gun with the intention to shoot anybody, im buying it for added protection and peace of mind. Is it wrong for me to want to defend myself should something happen???

i agree i see what you're saying now, i misread your posts before.
if you don't already have a security system, you might want to look into that, it'll provide even more protection and assurance which it seems you are looking for. and no i dont feel that it is wrong for someone to defend oneself.

nothings gonna change a burglars mind more than the sound of the pump action on a shotgun!!!

The new home I'm moving in has an electronic security system. But the real deterrant is my pitbull to wake me up and bite his nuts to keep him busy long enough for me to get my gun. I pity anyone stupid enough to break into my house when I'm home.

What an intelligent retort.

I personally am happy in the knowledge that almost all of the people i come into contact with do not have access to guns.

Part of the reason you feel the need to protect your home with guns is because it's so easy for every joker to get hold of one to rob you with.

Most of the people in the UK will never see a gun.

I think that's a good thing.

This is America! We love to go to our fast food chains and get our 55 gallon drums of coke, be morbidly obese, back out of world leader environmental conventions, be hypocrites, be completely obsessed over totally insignificant things like celebrities, and all the while shooting at each other. meh. At least we give the world something to talk about.

And back on topic, there is nothing wrong with owning firearms for home/personal security, and recreational use.

Unfortuantely that's how most Americans think... frown.gif

Also... It's ok to own a gun. Some guys just have a really small penis and can't afford a big truck.

also about other countries not havening guns. congrats on low shooting numbers.. but congrats on those Bludgeoning with blunt weapon charges. its just a tool. other countries have huge soccer game riots and looting through the streets. i mean we do to, just saying no matter what people will always be violent and stupid i guess.

I admit that his reply wasn't particularly intelligent but I think he was not trying to be anything but funny.
To the meat of your arguement - I find it hard to believe that it is much more difficult for criminals in your country to get their hands on a gun. It's probably more expensive but the black market arms dealers are everywhere and in all countries.
I think the day someone breaks in your home at gunpoint and threatens/kills/rapes you or a loved one you will wish you had the right to own one and could have properly defended yourself.
And just for the record - I am not wishing anything bad to happen to you or your family. I sincerly hope nothing ever does. I just want you to understand our POV. Also this is one of the things we Americans are gauranteed as a right and have been since the founding of our country so we will naturally take offense to someone from elsewhere [especially the UK] telling us our country is fcuked up because of something we pride ourselves in. Also we are very sick and tired of people in our own country constantly nagging on about the same issue. It's pretty simple - if you don't wish to own a gun then don't. But don't try to take away the rights of others because you don't agree with them.

I'm not trying to say your country is wrong, or that mine is better in any way. Just presenting my personal opinion.

It's not just criminals that kill people is it....

How many people die in accidents involving guns?
I'll look into it but i suspect there will be more accidental deaths than ones due to crime.

I think Americans need to understand OTHER people's point of view more so than others understanding Americans. Ethnocentrism is rampant in this country because we are under the impression "America is number 1" when in fact we're probably not. Being the richest most powerful nation doesn't make a nation a great place to live. We don't treat each other particularly well. The greatness of America, if you look at history, probably died out in the 70's. No doubt we should be prideful, but be prideful in a way that asks "How can we be better" instead of always saying "Why isn't anyone as good".

As far as guns go... yeah... it's in the constitution... but If the fore-fathers could imagine refrigerators and supermarkets... they would probably have excluded that. Hell... if they excluded religion... guns ain't a thing....

I skipped most of the pointless bickering and would like to
add I have put many rounds through an 870 mostly for trap
with very few problems. The Mossbergs I have used
seem to be prone to ejector problems. Guns are a very
delicate subject, lots of mixed opinions. Such topics usually
end up locked because of this. Good luck with this one.

Like my dad always taught me, its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Hence why we have two, 30 gun safes full of various beauties. biggrin.gif But yeah dont even bother with the mossberg just get the remington, much better quality.

The problem with guns in protection is the "perfect scenario" where people explain the use of a gun in home protection, well, has to be perfect. I have to say, if somebody break into your house, just run away, that dude might have a gun or a knife, but if you're "stupid" enough to risk your life over personal belongings in your house, you should rethink values of life, seriously. Educate your kids to get out of the windows like when the fire alarm goes off...etc. Its not because its part of your constitution, your rights, that's it’s something "smart". There is better alternative out there than shooting whoever's in your house.
