I went to the 12am Spider-Man showing last night. I have to say, very disappointed. This maybe because it was hyped up so much.

I felt that the writing was fairly uncreative. Things just happen with very ltitle to no explanation as to why, or how its figured out. None of the villains had enough screen time to actually create a presence. Editing was mediocre, leaving you wondering wtf just happened?

It simply doesn't compare to either of the other 2 movies. Theres action but it is slow to start up and theres way to much attempt at character depth.

Theres a fair bit of comedy in it, but also some silly moments that could have been cut back on.

I love spider-man, but this movie was a great disappointment to me.

Don't get me wrong, I dont think it was bad. I think it was sub-par for Spider-Man movies and Sam Raimi.

Again, when something is SO hyped up, it geneally can't meet the standards that are expected. Mine were high, so I felt let down.

I don't think I wanna wait in a long line to see it tonight now... thanks for the review. I'll probably just wait and see it one night when I have nothing to do.

Thats odd because from what I've heard & read, most people are very disappointed. Spidey is my fav. character and I would be more than willing to love this movie, but its just not there. Heres a good review of the movie in which I agree:

QUOTE
First and foremost I have to say that I was a huge fan of the first two Spider-Man movies and had high hopes for the third movie installment, maybe too high. I think it was fair to have such high hopes considering that the entire cast came back for this sequel, including director Sam Raimi. In all fairness the movie wasn’t horrible, but it could have been so much better.

The sense I got upon finishing the movie was that they had actually written a great film, and shot it. Then somebody called Sam Raimi and forced Venom on him. I’m aware that that was not the case, but that was the feeling I was left with. The movie just had too much going on for its own good. The movie features too many villain characters and not enough time to make it all work; because of this the film had a rushed feeling at times that made for some pretty bad storytelling. I felt that the first two movies did an excellent job of taking large chunks of the comic adventures and fitting them into movie scripts, while keeping the chronological events of the books roughly intact. I say that because one of the most questionable additions to this movie in my opinion was the Gwen Stacy character, why was that even remotely necessary? That part of Peter’s life seemed to me to have already been handled in the prior movies, especially considering the type of dynamic that existed between Peter and Gwen in the comics (for those of you who don’t know, the Death of Gwen Stacy is considered one of the greatest comic stories of all time), I felt that most of that was all covered using Mary Jane in Gwen’s stead. Why not use Felicia Hardy instead, that ‘love triangle’ (if you really want to call it that) actually existed to some degree in the comics.

The only thing that really worked in the movie was the retelling of the Harry Osborne storyline, with the exception of the poorly conceived sequence at the end of the movie (in the comic Harry rescued Peter and Mary Jane from a house rigged to explode before dying from chemical poisoning) which was made even worse by the lame excuse for a scene in which Harry’s butler convinces him to help Pete and MJ. To call the scene cheesy is unfair to the day time soap operas where such idiocy is common place. I truly believe that the inclusion of the Venom angle (one of the most ill-conceived villain in all of comics by the way) was what caused for such abrupt and campy storytelling. It just seemed like they didn’t have time to flesh out certain scenes and they cut some serious corners. All the events that take place in movie seem like they take place in the span of like two weeks. Venom is on the scene for all of like two hours, the meeting between he and Sandman seemed like something that would have occurred in the old Batman franchise movies, are you kidding me? And don’t get me started about the decision to keep Topher Grace’s voice roughly the same while in the Venom suit, what the hell was that about?

Every time the movie seemed to be going in a good direction the film just shot itself in the foot. I didn’t mind the singing scenes that much, but the dance scenes where painful to watch, and what was up with emo evil Parker, he was either going to be tougher on crime, or start a lame rock band. I honestly couldn’t believe what I was watching. I will say that the acting in itself was as good as it could be, but the movie suffered incredibly from an over-stuffed plot and in some instances, flat out bad writing. Oh, yeah the special effects were good in case you were wondering, but not good enough to overcome the story completely sucking.

I agree with everything said above with one exception [not nec having to do with the movie] - Venom has one of the best and most original origin stories in comics - ever. He's not the result of some freak accident involving [insert your fav radiation here], or a mutant or whetever. This is coming from someone who has never liked Spider-man as a comic, although I must say next to the Blade movies the SM movies are probably the best Marvel movies ever made.
I wish the X-men movies had been half as good as these tho.

I thought Xmen 1 was great, 2 was good, 3 horrible. Same with Blade. 1 was cool, 2 was so-so, 3 I just didn't enjoy.

I thought this movie would be the best of the summer (granted its spring). But we still have Transformers, Bourne Ultimatum, Pirates 3 and Die Hard 4 to look forward to.

Hey guys, I caught the midnight showing last night. I too was disappointed. What a let down. First the atrocity that was X-Men 3, now this. I have read over 500 Spider-Man comics (I have ALL of Amazing on my computer), so I am pretty well versed.

The film tried to do way too much. It just kind of fell on it's face at the end. There's a lot of foreshadowing.

Here's what I liked. I'll try not to spoil anything. Bryce as Gwen, Franco as Osborne, and Bruce Campbell's parts were the most enjoyable thing in the movie for me. I thought Dunst, Topher, and Tobey sucked...especialyl compared to the last two movies.

There were continuity errors abound. Brock is NOT the "new guy" they portrayed him to be if he is mentioned in the previous movies.

Venom looked great but his story was a let down. Although I went into the movie knowing that the movie is not about Venom AT ALL and that he is just a side villain.

Sandman was great though. Emotional, and his effects were amazing.

Overall, I'd only give a 5.5/10. I left the theater pretty upset.

Something I didn't like was the last conversation between Sandman & Spidey, and the whole "I ... you." Terrible writing.

Oh and the editing! That part when he first gets the suit and then it cuts to him & Connors looking at a piece of the symbiote. WTF? It was the middle of the night, and it just cuts to them in a classroom talking. ?!

Actually I liked that part between them. But I don't like how Sandman was Ben's killer. Ben's murder had closure in 2, I don't think it needed to be re-opened. And the editing was bad. I agree. I LIKED the scene where Connors looked at it, but wouldn't he wonder WHAT or WHY Peter has black ooze that moves around and seems alive? I can't think of any thing on earth that's like that. Also...only you will get this...but what happens to the black piece that Connors looks at in the milk and cookies scene? Something to think about I guess. I was so excited for X3, and SM3, but they were such a letdown. What a continuation of the trilogy curse...I'm sorry. I could rant all day and night.

Bottom line is this. If you have ONLY seen the movies, you might enjoy this flick. It has great previews.

I don't remember that part because I was laughing at the cookies part. Comedy was pretty good I have to admit.

I think that part with Connors is good, but they forced it in there when the timing was wrong. Like I said, there were 3 villains and not enough depth for all 3. Venom should have been left out for his own movie w/Spidey. Not to mention they hardly changed Tophers voice when he was Venom!

BTW: When was Eddie mentioned in the other movies?

I can't remember if it was Spidey 1 or 2, but they were trying to get shots of someone. I can't remember if they wanted shots of Doc Ock or Spider-Man, hence why I can't remember if it was 1 or 2. But Jameson says something like "Eddie's been on it for weeks now!"

i'm a huge comic book nerd. it's always great to see characters from the comics come to life on the big screen, is one of the only reasons i like watching comic book based movies. i never go into the movies thinking that they are going to be great.

Yep. SM1. I just watched it again yesterday on DVD with the popup feature on and it mentioned Eddie being Venom.

Saw it again and it was def worse the second time. They could have cut out like 45mins of the hour straight of love crap in the middle of the movie. And the extra love bit at the end was completely un-nec.
Venom was really cool, as was the new Green Goblin and Sandman looked just like the guy in the comic. I didn't like that he was super huge 1/2 the time though. His fights with spiderman work better when he's small and can move quickly when his lower half is sand.
Side note: Silver Surfer looks cool. I like the way they made it half a FF movie - pretty much the way it should be. Guess we won't be seeing Galactus tho.
