I got my new turbo finally 2 days ago, but after driving it started leaking oil, and lots of it. it seems like with normal driving it leaks really slow, but it starts leaking like crazy under boost. there was a crap load of smoke coming from my engine and a puddle under my car. not too much later my oil pressure gauge started reading low and the oil light on my dash came on. I pulled over immediately at a gas station and put 2 quarts of conventional oil in (I normally use synthetic but they didn't have any). the oil light was still on and oil pressure was still low. but the light went away after a while and oil pressure went back to normal after the car had had a few hours to cool down. anyway, now I'm trying to locate where I have oil leaking from. I jacked the car up and started it and got under it to check and there is 1 or 2 slow leaks from the oil pan. But somehow I don't think that those little leaks could be causing such a big oil leak under boost... or could they? what are some other places I should check for oil leaks? I'm pretty sure I'm not leaking from my filter relocation lines. I could be leaking from my feed and/or drain lines but I'm not sure. It looks like the smoke (which is bluish which means burning oil) is coming from my turbo or from under it. I know oil is leaking onto my exhaust near where it connects to the downpipe, but I think that's from my oil pan. anyway, I just want to know if there is anywhere else I should be looking. thanks

your turbo probably needs a rebuilding. i went through about a quart every 3 days on my turbo right before it blew i was waiting to see how far it went before it finally gave out....and that was definately a site....the whole inside of my car rolled in with smoke it was pretty sweet, and oil was puddling out from the inlet side of the turbo. also another thing are you using an oil restrictor with your setup? if your not your hurting your seals.

I blew my last turbo. this one only has 35K miles on it. and yes I am using an oil restrictor.

my guess is you blew gaskets...to much oil pressure and blew gaskets......but dont quote me on that.............i would tho check to see if that is a cause if you know its not then start where you know there is a leak such as oil pan replace gasket or check for lose screws......then locate another and another till youv got it all.....you may even find 2 at once so dont read what i post and think...oh no i dont wanna have to take this thing apart sevral times..lol but lets us know what you find....im interested as to know waht the prob. is

that's the thing. I really don't want to be taking the car apart multiple times and have it be out of commission for a week or more. This car has been nothing but problem after problem after problem ever since I decided to put a turbo on. everything that could have gone wrong has gone wrong and I'm really fed-up of having a car for a day and then having it break for a week or two at a time and then me finally getting a part to fix one problem, then a day or two later another problem will arise. this cycle has happened at least 4-5 times now. the worst is when my car decides to break when I'm way on the other side of town and I have to spend money that I don't have to get it towed back.

anyway, I'm sorry for ranting, I was just wondering if there were any other places I should check for oil leaks while I already have it apart.

replace the seals at either end of the crank while you're in there.

if your useing a stock engin with turbo then yes you will always have problems well depending on how much the turbo is pushing if you pushing 15 or more then yes get rid of turbo or upgrade parts on block and head such as cam pistons shafts ect....the whole works.....thats why every one is just swaping engins, as well as me im just trying to learn more bout the engin im wainting to put in....but if it was that easy to through in a turbo on stock a call it good with no after effects then everyone would do it...........but this may not be your case...let me know

but i agree with bitter, and oil pan gasket.....im not sure about filter relocation lines....i dont even know what that is but if its comming from the frnt under the turbo mite wanna check you oil filter....(and if it is what it sounds filter relocation then check it where it connect to the block)...............if you can take pic i would really like to see

well, I went back out and put the oil pan back on. started it up, and it's leaking from the oil pan in the same corner it was before... making me believe that it might be slightly bent there or something (yes I did scrape off all the old gasket material). I think I'm just gonna put a crap load of sealant in that area and see if that fixes it. then I gotta take it out for a test drive and see if I still have an insane leak under boost. if I do, I seriously might kick my car

I didn't expect it to not have any problems at all, but it's just getting rediculous! I'm only boosting 8 PSI btw. also, upgrading internals isn't going to fix problems like oil and fuel leaks. lol

I would suggest finding a good mechanic to take a look at it on the side. If you are dumping that much oil you could/will damage your turbo quickly. You may save yourself a bunch of time, money and frustration just paying to have it properly diagnosed and fixed. You may be able to fix it your self. you just need to have the problem pinpointed. IMO. Good luck!

well, i found a pretty big leak... it didn't make itself clear until the car had been running for a while, but on the side of the oil pan, to block off the sensor bung thingy or whatever, the previous owner of this oil pan had JB welded a piece of metal in place, which worked, until now. I remember somebody (I think presure2) making a post about a new block off plate thing for it, so I'm gonna get that and chisel away all the JB weld. hopefully that'll fix my problem.
