First of all, I used to be a mechanic for a living, so you can be as technical as you want to be in the answers.
1) I didn't have a timing belt tensioner when I got my block (Gen III 3sgte), I'm guessing the tensioner should be the same as the Gen II 3s, but I don't know for sure. So does anyone know if I can use the Gen II 3s timing tensioner on a Gen III block? And my block is from a JDM MR2, not GT-Four, I'm guessing the motor mounts are different so I'm using my stock 5sfe mounts on the block, this doesn't interfere with the tensioner at all does it? I have a 5sfe timing belt tensioner, but I'm also guessing the timing belt tensioner on the 5sfe and 3sgte is different due to one engine having one cam gear and the other engine having two cam gears. 2) I'm using a stock celica trans (s54 I think..not too sure on the nomenclature) with my Gen III engine, fidanza flywheel, 3s TRD pressure plate, and TRD 5sfe clutch disk. I sold my aftermarket flywheel with the ACT clutch kit I had on the old 5sfe. Is the 5sfe flywheel the same diameter as the 3sgte flywheel(outside diameter, not contact surface)? I need to know so I'll know if my starter actually touches the flywheel. Everything is in pieces right now, I'm assembling the engine on an engine stand and won't put the trans on until the engine is ready to go it..plus I think my starter fell off the back of the truck when I was moving ![]() 3) Oh yeah, I forgot about this one, I still need an alternator bracket for my build, it's one of that parts that I couldn't find, I don't think the 5s one fits, I'll have to check it to see for sure since I have one, but I know the heads between the two engines are waaaaay different..so I doubt it will. Does the Gen II 3s alt bracket fit the Gen III head? Where could I get a bracket if the Gen III requires a different alt bracket than the Gen II? 4) crap, ok I have one more..lol. My Gen III block came with a homemade metal plate covering the hole where the stock oil cooler used to be (and this is the same place where the oil filter is on our 5sfe's). I don't know if my block was a 3sge or a 3sgte, so I don't know if it came with turbo and when the guy upgraded to a larger turbo the oil cooler was in the way, nor do I know if it was a non turbo 3sge and when the guy upgraded the oil cooler had to go. I'm guessing the oil cooler got in the way of the turbo that the guy put on it, so he put a plate there. Does the oil cooler get in the way of the turbo? It's kinda hard to ask this question without it being a paragraph long, hopefully someone can make sense of my paragraph of madness. I got this engine a lot cheaper because I emailed all of the ebay guys that were selling whole clips and asked them for extra parts: block, manifolds, timing covers, brackets...etc, plus I personally know Joel at toysport so he hooked me up with the parts that I couldn't find (for example a head w/ 10k miles!) now I have everything almost together, just the few questions above that I need answers to. And PLEASE! To any of you guys that have Gen III's, if you could send me as many pictures of your setup as you can I will be Thanks guys!
