3sgte with front mount intercooler

Here is all the information that I have obtained about the 3sgte.

This engine will swap into any Celica that supports a 3s or 5s series motor. The 3sgte will also swap into Celicas with the A series motors but this does require more work than a S series Celica.

The 3sgte is classified by GENS... like the gens of a vehicle there are gens of motors. The gen of a motor determines from which production years the engine was produced. The start of a new gen usally coincides with the start of a new vehicle gen, although there are some gens that apear in different years of different vehicles.

GEN ONE*
10/87 - 8/89 ST165 Celica GT4/Alltrac

GEN TWO*
10/89 - 8/93 ST185 Celica GT4/Alltrac
1/90 - 6/95 SW20 MR2 Turbo

GEN THREE*
9/94 - 8/99 ST205 Celica GT4/Alltrac

* There are other models that have the 3sgte in them but this is the common vehicles that coincied with the respective GENS.

The GENS are also subdivided by the Group of the motor... There are two groups of the 3sgte. The first is GROUP B this is the original version of the motor and is usally just referred to as the 3sgte. The second is GROUP A this is the higher output version of the 3sgte.. GROUP A was a limited edition of the 2nd and 3rd GEN that was a fully built rally version of the 3sgte, these where also known as the CARLOS SAINTZ or R/C edition, and there where approx 2500 of the 3rd gen R/C's produced, I am not sure to the amount of the 2nd gen R/C's that where produced. The GROUP A motors had a few of the advance features turned off, where not present or just did not function.

The HP rating of these versions are as follows, variances are due to different transmission types and Group vesions

GEN ONE
185hp @ 6000 rpm

GEN TWO
200 - 225 hp @ 6000 rpm

GEN THREE
255 - 346 hp @ 6000rpm

Here are the Japanese specs for the 3sgte you will want to save this file to view it better or email me and I will send it to you [URL=mailto:XNEVERSTOPX@aol.com] please include your email address as the 6th gen forum email option will not allow images to be sent.

the engine will swap into any celica. no just those that support 3s and 5s engines. it's just a tad bit easier in those.

Yeah It has been done before.. I had a GT before my swap and that is a S series motor but if you go to celica.net I am sure that you can find someone that has done the swap from a A series and can give you more info.

I do know a little about A-S swap but not enuf to be complete

PS: my avatar is KICK ASS!!!! if enone wants the TRD one that I had before let me know an I will email you the file

Your are supposed to be able to swap these directly but I don't know of neone that has done this swap personally, do have a friend with a 5th gen ST that is looking into it and I will be helping him with the swap if he does do it but right now I don't know a whole lot about the A series, but would think that the swap would be pretty straight forward though with the hardest part being the wiring. Just be sure that if you plan on doing this that you either purchause the whole clip or at least get the engine.transmission.ECU and wiring harness... the rest should just be relocation kind of stuff.

The more that I think of it the wiring would be really hard in this swap as there wasn't a Celica that eversupported the 4agze.... probably would have to do some custom wiring to make everything work right.

Talk to Mynzeyes or Jason they should be able to help you a little more on the 4agze

Yep, it is a direct swap. Xpander has done the swap in his ST and said that the engine dropped right in. You don't have to change engine mounts or anything, and you can even use your stock axles and transmission if desired.

Check out Xpander's profile here for more information.

FallenHero: Mike(Qatar11 on here and on Celica.net) dropped a 2nd gen. 3S-GTE into his ST. More info is available here.

I put the 3sgte into my st which originally had a 7afe in it. It's the same difficulty as the gt motor with an S block but you need more parts. It's a perfect fit. And what is that **** that oreo has underneath his signature, obviously not pics of that car. Get that **** off there.

I'm sure it's just the car that he admires. smile.gif He's not claiming that it's his car.
