Calipers or disks (or both) on their own won't fit an st202/st203/st204. Your st204 probably has MacPherson strut system, the GT4 has SuperStrut suspension system. A few owners have replaced the whole strut system on st202/st203/st204 with the GT4 strut system (plus SuperStrut was an option in some countries) but replacement components are more expensive for SuperStrut. You may want to look into a big brakes conversion instead. Use the search engine on this site to find relevant posts about that. 185'S dont have superstrut front suspension and 205 calipers dont fit without custom brackets on the 185 struts, Audi TT discs and Impreza discs have both been made to fit with custom brackets on the 185 using 205 calipers. There are big brake kits available off the shelf for the 185 though.

first, the caliper doesn't mount on the strut, it goes on the axle carrier (steering knuckle). but i'm sure that's what you meant Driveby.
but according to this thread: Guide to install ST205 brakes on ST185 the st205 calipers mount on to the st185 axle carrier without the use of a custom bracket or adapter. however, i'm not sure what the case is for mounting st205 calipers on a st202 or st204. can anyone verify that? seeing how they fit st185s and some corollas, there's a chance they'll fit on the st202/st204 carriers as well. now, if they do fit the st204, there are also other things that need to be considered like getting different caliper bolts matched to fit, caliper-to-wheel clearance, longer brake lines, lower balljoint clearance (as mentioned in the link above), whether the discs are centered with the caliper, etc etc... if anyone has an extra set of st205 calipers/axle carriers, can anyone let us know the distance between the caliper bracket bolt holes? here's a pic of when i was putting in new brembo discs and calipers: ![]() as you can see, it's about 142mm or 14 inches between the two ends of the st204 caliper bolt holes. I think what lubu is suggesting is mounting the st205 calipers (and brake disks?) onto st185 axle carriers, then swapping out the st204 axle carriers/axles for st185 parts. I'm not sure whether that is possible, but seriously it would be much easier to just get a 6th gen big brake kit. If you paint the caliper holders and add transfers, it will look almost identical to the untrained eye. -------------------- Davey

Thats what i had in mind, but if anyone can confirm the distance between the two ends of the st205 caplipers bolt holes same as 204's (14.2cm according to azian_advanced) then i think its a much simpler process. btw, are the suspension on the st185 better than the 204's i have a pair laying around from my swap, the suspension on my 204's is kinda stiff, i want more comfy ride -------------------- ![]() 98% completion --- aaRon |
