Hey guys, i was wondering if all headgaskets are the same? in bore size i mean, im looking into buying a metal head gasket and want to know if i need to specify that my block is bored 20 over (.020). I think im gonna buy an ACL one (the people that make bearings ;p) so can someone be so kind as to telling me what I have to torque the head bolts to? also should 1mm thick be fine or should i get a thicker one?

HG have a slightly larger bore than the cylinders to allow for overboring.
As for how thick you need, that depends on what C:R you want. Keep in mind if the head and/or block have been machined this will lower your C:R. The head bolt torque will also depend on what HG you use and what head bolts you use [might as well get studs if you're tearing into it]. -------------------- ![]() |

Out of curiousity what are the differences between 5S-FE and 3S-GTE headgaskets. Can they be interchanged (i.e. can you use a 3S-GTE head gasket on a 5S-FE without modification?)?
Anyone have pictures comparing the heads, blocks, gaskets of the two engines? -------------------- |

Well the 3S head can go on the 5S block. The cylinder bore is 86mm (3S-GTE) vs 87.1mm (5S-FE), therefore if the gasket bore is 88mm, I would think it would work on both. Just curious, that is why I would like to see a picture of a 3S head or gasket and a picture of a 5S head or gasket. -------------------- |
