Question for HL2 players, havent used steam for awhile...well..more like 2 years Options

So, i have Steam, Half-Life 2 and a few other Steam games installed on my computer from back when half life 2 came out, but ive went onto steams website within the last month *first time in like..a year*, and it now says that certain games, IE counterstrike soruce, you have to pay for now. My question is, when I update steam *havent done so, or used it for...almost 2 years now*, will i have to pay to be able 2 play the games i already have?..or will they just automaticly update?? Im just curious if im gonna need to pay to get counterstrike back and running again.

I honestly donno if my half life 2 will work or not because im pretty sure i had some part of the files deleted when my computer got cleaned up from a virus. I havent been able to try yet because after they cleaned up my computer, they put some firewall settins or something up, so i cant log onto MSN, Steam or go onto any secured site.

whatever games you have in your steam account are games you already paid for. if you bought hl2, you get counterstrike source with that. so you can update steam and not loose anything.

best part is... that if you reformat your computer or something happens to your files, you can just log into steam and download all the games you already paid for. this was a godsent for me, because my HL2 disk got damaged a long ago.

if you have anything like peer guardian, or a software firewall, then you might need to disable that for steam to work.

lagos got it right! Whatever you bought is automatically connected to your account so that all you need to do is log in and dl the necessary files!

I bought it mainly because of Team Fortress 2. I played Team Fortress Classic nonstop in the past. It's just FANTASTIC

I never bought HL2 Legally ( ) but I did got CS:S. I can only conclude The Orange Box is the best collection of games vs price you will ever get.

im plannin on buyin orange box cuz i just went through some all of my CD's i left back at my parents house, and i dont have any HL2 install cds here, and i only have 2 back at mine. So looks like im gonna have to buy it. Im gonna head over the boarder on Wensday and probably buy it then just cuz heres, our $ is better then the USD is right now, but Orange box is $60, 10 min across the boarder, its $50. So, now, i just gotta go back to best buy, get them to fix what ever they messed up b4, buy orange box cuz TFC2 looks awsome, and then ill probably be online again.

Hey wait! You don't need the install CD's to get the game, you can download it off Steam.

BUT

If you only have half life 2, you could get 4 new games from ORange Box which is what I did this morning

AND if you already have the original hl2, you can give it to a friend as a gift for free!

also, if you have steam, you can purchase things online, and i believe they use paypal so if you have paypal dollars you can use that

hmmm...if they use paypal, then ill just get it off the net. My roomates got like $70 in paypal $ that he doesnt have any thing to use it on.

yeah but im just tryin to say, if you still have your original login info, then you should be able to see what games you own already and go from there.

if you only have half life 2, id buy orange box, ooor you could get one step up or whatever it is and grab cs:s and dod:s and play with me and my friends!

But im saying i dont think HL2 is properly installed on my comp any more and i dont know where most of my install discs are. So im gonna have to go buy orange box now most likely. But eitherway, i wanna get Portal, the other HL2 episodes, and TFC2

Download steam and buy it online, you'll save taxes, and with all the updates , getting **** on CD is useless as everything you'll install you'll have updates to download anyway. Steam will download all the games you have automatically. And remember, now you pay cheaper than americans if you buy it on steam

too late...i already bought it tonight, my buddy was working on his last day at EB games, so i went, got the game for cost, and left..lol. What were they gonna do for giving me the game at cost? Fire my friend??..lol. I ended up gettin it for $32 with taxes. Now i just need to go back home, get my comp fixed *probably on wensday*, and then install it.

im gettin excited..lol..i was talking to some of my old highschool friends that i used to play CS with all the time, and we r gonna have a reunion/match up. And i wentout and got me a new Mic *i cant find my old one* and a new seat of headphones. Now i just gotta wait to getup tomorrow morning, drive for 4 hours, take my comp to best buy, wait for them to fix it and im gonna b back on playing.

Every friday for like the first 2 years of highschool me and a bunch of friends would all go down to this internet cafe afterschool, spend like 3 hours there eating pizza, shrimpchips, and drinking coke playing CS 1.6. But by grade 11, school and girls came first..lol

i brought it in to clear off some spywear and virsus that my cousin managed to download when he was over like...a year and a half ago, and i never got around to clearin it off, so i got them to clean it up..brought it home, and i couldnt log on to any secure sites, IE facebook, hotmail, steam, msn, any thing that essentialy needed a password. So i brought it back to them today, got it all fixed up, didnt charge me a cent for it, and now im up and running. Im installing the new steam and orange box as we speak. Try re-adding me in about 2 hours time, i just got this all set-up and i gotta try and figure out how this new system all works
