mk im goign to be painting my car in the next month finally its taken me a while to track down all of the componets for my transformation. i have fiberglass fenders, hood, wing, and rear extenstions and when i go to bare metal i use etching primer to get a good bite on the sheetmetal. my question is should i use the etching primer for fiberglass? will it hurt it? is there a primer that works better for fiberglass? ive painted from bare metal before just not fiberglass and wasnt sure if it would damange it in the process. it seems thats there is like a gel coat on top and i wasnt sure if this was primable or shoudl i prep it with etching primer.

heres what i usually use http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail....tegoryCode=3275

thx for the info

etching primer should be perfectly fine.
you would want to use 1 single type of primer the entire way across the car other wise you'll get color distortions between sections of the car

make sure you get that gel coat off....the primer might not lay right, just like you want bare metal for the primer to stick right and the paint to stick to the paint, you want the primer to stick to the fiberglass as well and that gel coat might lift the primer

i was planning on it from start to finish and even painting my interior peices to match

i use the green etching primer then sand it down bondo on top of that and then do a secondary primer on top of that i knwo its an xtra step but the paint seems to lay down a lot flatter with out so much orange peel. and i was going to rough up the peices first i just wasnt sure if the etching primer would eat at the fiberglass or not. thx for the help guys biggrin.gif
