ever since i installed the intake in october my celica is getting louder and louder. at first it wasnt really loud unless my rpms were up but it was no where near as loud as now. I know that since it is colder now air is more condense and more air going in means louder intake but this is sorta crazy. right now it sounds like i have an exhaust and im so paranoid when i see cops cuz im afraid they would pull me over and ticket me cuz i threw away my stock box biggrin.gif . it doesnt seem like the noise is coming from the intake but more from the engine... what do you guys think is going on?

What kind of sound?
You did mention exhaust sound, but coming from the engine?
Might wanna check if you have exhaust leak.

i cant tell if its an exhaust noise per se but its really loud like i have one but its stock. all i kno is that the noise is not coming from the intake piping. i was actually thinking about wrapping the intake pipe with electrical tape and hope that stopped the vibrating a lil

If the sound is only in the High RPMS then it is your intake, although your intake can give you a throaty sound altogether, its biggest noticeable difference is when you are pounding the gas pedal. But if it is in any given time, then you have a leak in your exhaust system basically in your piping or muffler like what ^ they said.

i've check the exhaust but i dont see any holes in it. how else would i kno if there is an exhaust leak? when i check under the hood the noise is not as loud as it when i check under the car. the noise gets louder the more closer i am to the cat too. say if we rule out the exhaust leak could there be anything else that would make my car very loud and throaty?

If it's only recently that it's been happening, then I would say that it's because it's cold out. I don't know how often you drive, but warming up our cars use more gas and air. So it's probably just that. Either that or your ebay intake is coming loose from the throttle body...

i do have a video but i didnt have time to upload it.

it did happen somewhat recently like almost for a month now. and i think i found the problem. u kno how ya been saying it might be an exhaust leak. it kinda is an exhaust leak but technically its a break in the exhaust. the break is where the header and the cat meet up. is this simple to fix? say all i need is a gasket and some bolts?

Gasket, bolts, PB Blaster, and a 900 ft/lb impact wrench if you got one. If not you can hire a big burly mexican wrestler or something to help get the bolts off.

".......Sweet. Thanks."
"No problem."

Twenty bucks at an exhaust shop will fix that for you.

You can usually find a leak by shoving rag or a towel in the tailpipe and then starting the car. It's a very easy way of finding an exhaust leak. Hope it helps.

i am not really sure if i want to fix it or not. i mean it makes my car sound faster XD and i get this kinda back firing noise or the noise u hear from trucks when they are engine braking. the only thing i dont like about it is when at times it is so loud when i am cruising high way and the other fact that it is bad for the environment. if its twenty bucks i would be happy to take it to a shop lol i thought i was gonna cost a bit more.

If you don't get it fixed, it will only get worse and more expensive to fix later on. Fix it now while it's cheap and easy.

i got it fixed the day after christmas and the mechanic said that i was lucky that the converter was not damaged. boy did i notice the difference afterwards. i noticed that it was way way more quieter then b4. its even quieter then when i first got the car, to me it seems like the car is brand new except for my suspension problem. im guessing that the gasket where the exhaust flange and cat meet needed to be fixed a long time ago. now that i have it fixed i can barely notice that i have an sri. now that its fixed that car pulls better than when i first bought it. i cant even tell if thats because i fixed the gasket problem or its the intake thats doing this. my celica is pulling very good almost like an auto. i love my celica so much now tongue.gif . next thing to get fixed are the rear brake pads
