You guys are comparing a staight line monster (Z06/ZR1/ whatever and Supra(drag purpose built)) with a car that actually can take turns as fast as anything. Its 18 seconds faster then the Ferrari F430 (which is a handling delight)and 21 seconds faster then the Dodge Viper SRT10 (the car which the Z06/ZR1 competes with) around the Ring. Oh yeah I forgot to mention: That was on a semi wet track. Just imagine what it would do on a dry summer day ![]() This post has been edited by Kadett: Dec 22, 2007 - 12:32 PM -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

well hey, if you took some of that 35K you were putting into the supra into suspension and maybe went with a slightly smaller, quick spooling turbo, and I'm sure it'd do pretty good. maybe not as good as the skyline, but who knows? in the end, at least you actually get to drive the supra and not just let it practically drive you.

Sport Auto lap time comparisons: Ferrari F430 F1: 7:55 seconds Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano: 7:47 seconds Porsche 997 911 Turbo : 7:54 seconds Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06: 7:49 seconds Ford GT:7:52 seconds Nissan GTR: 7:50 seconds From www.rennteam.com Sportauto with the famous driver Horst has driven the new Skyline on N-ring. *7:50 --- 157.787 km/h -- Nissan GT-R, 480 PS/1750 kg, Horst von Saurma, partially wet track (sport auto 12/07)* The original 7:38 listed was not in production form. Nissan CEO stated that himself. It was close to production form but not finalized. (Trying to find the damn link that had his comments in it. ) We will see what it lays down in production form when Top Gear gets their hands on it. In the mean time. If I want to drive something with a 1,000 computers in it, I'll just turn on my PS3. -------------------- |

I'll never touch a Nissan.. That car is way over-priced and over-hyped.. Let's see how it is fairing in a few years, if there are any major recalls and how they actually hold up. Not to mention they are fugly too.
I'll take the Vette any day. -------------------- 87 4runner DLX 22re, 5spd, 4.30gr, 4" lift, 30" tires, HID w/ Projectors, 6spkr + sub, custom exhaust, 94 celica leather seats, SR5 gauge cluster and clinometer. Future engine swap... possibly a 2jzge.

Not to mention the ZR1's body is practically all carbon fiber. hood, fenders, roof, trunklid. yeah, there is a reason it costs $100,000. Because people will dish out $100,000 for a corvette before they dish out 65-70k for a ...nissan.

Corvette attracts a different demographic..completely. Nissan is going to release a product to a demographic that, for the MOST part, can't afford it. Why is/was the STi so popular..arguably of course? Affordability. They built a 300some horsepower AWD production car that cost the consumer around $35,000. Your talking about $30,000 for .7 second increase in a 0-60 time. I mean, really? The marginal benefit is too small to justify not putting $30,000 into a STi or Evo or what have you and still have a silly fast AWD ride that handles like a computer.. i mean, unless you want to paddle-shift your groceries home from the market ![]() Personally, just my two cents. But I wouldn't expect to see more than 3-4 production years of the GT-R. The american auto market wants reliability and economy over flash and flare..and the trend is likely to stay for a while. Thats why toyota is making so much money in America..and will continue to make so much money in america. Sure there is a tuner niche market, but we don't have the same type of buying power, or consumer command over industry. Want that to change? Hire lobbyists in Washington. I'm not kidding. Why do you think people care so much about alternative fuels and such now? Because someone paid someone else a lot of money to make their point clear to the legislators who regulate the EPA, who regulate DOTs, etc on down the line. |

you do know that the gt-r is way more than just a 0-60 time...lets just get that straight.
and if a 70k car can outgun a 130k porsche thats is perfectly ok with me. people need to understand that the gt-r is more of a car for enthusiasts rather than just boy racers who want to race from light to light. the gt-r is going to be one of the fastest production cars every, for half the price. not everybody will be able to have, and thats ok. I dont want this car to be like the evo or sti where every little teenaged a-hole has one and thinks they are the best thing since sliced bread. And I wish people would look passed the fact that its a nissan, come on people its japanese , its got tons of computers...its going to work! Because someone paid someone else a lot of money to make their point clear to the legislators who regulate the EPA, who regulate DOTs, etc on down the line. I mean 30k is BIG difference in price. And the GT-R is not just for a certain demographic. I mean i thought that about Evo AND vettes at first. There is a 37 year old lesbian chick that drives an MR on my block and a school teacher that drives a vette. I mean everyone buying a vette is a potential customer for the GT-R. I mean we have all seen an 50 something guys driving a STI to help curb his mid-life, i am cant believe i am 50 crisis. And younger people are making more money these days, mayne not 80k for a car $$$ but still its in the grasp of some 35+ guys. And why does that 50 year old guy buy a vette? to act young! well no better way to do that and do it in a off beat way but to ditch the vette and get a GT-R right? And how could u mention reliability and economy and mention the vette and domestic cars? we all know japanese cars last longer and cost less to maintain, in both gas and service. I had a trans am ws6 it was a nightmare!! i had 2 sell it and it was only 4 years old when i did. I think the GT-R will do well and yes people look for economy is most cars these days, but prefomance is making a comeback. -------------------- Your signature is not allowed on 6GC - Defgeph
