Do you mean a 2.2L out of a GT model Celica?

where are u from? where is Cornwall? is it US? or over seas?

over seas SOME gt's have 2.0 (1998cc) 3sge engines

while stateside our Gt's have 2.2 (2198cc*) 5sfe engines

edit: *unable to locate info on this site the confirms that to be the displace ment of the 5sfe...but I would assume around ~2200cc on the motor.

Cornwall is in the UK, we have 7A-FE 1.8s and 3S-GE 2.0s

If you search this forum there's a few write ups on ST -> GT -> GT4 conversions.

if you are going to swap a 3sge or 3sgte you will also need to get a new tranny and motor mounts. if it's a different motor altogether i suppose you could swap it but it may take a bit more work.

I love Supersprynt's posts, he's like, "Yes".

Can you put a 2JZGTE into a Celica?

Supersprynt: Yes

LOL (of course he doesn't mention HOW you could do it, but you CAN!

Anyway, a 3SGE swap is pretty simple, you'll need the GT mounts and axles and if you can get the p/s and a/c lines that will help a lot too. For that matter, the harness will probably plug and play.

you do realize that is what doc tweak does for a living right. for him it probably has become a simple thing. there isn't really any custom welding or anything for the swap. no custom drive train. the motor is designed for that engine bay. the only thing that would have to be done that could be difficult for him would be the wiring harness just because how time consuming it can take. if you know what you are doing i can see how you would think it's simple. just because it may take a while to do doesn't mean it's all that hard. you just have to have all the right equipment and the know how.

Anything that just bolts in is simple biggrin.gif A 3SGTE just goes beyond the realm of simple because you pretty much need a custom front-mount intercooler set up and custom exhaust, but up to that point it's also a bolt-in swap, even in the ST (well, sort of). smile.gif

bosence, the 3SGE is the 2.0 engine that you're referring to. Be advised that though both engines look at home in the engine bay, the 3SGE uses a different tranny, axles, mounts, a/c and p/s lines, harness, and ECU. So if you want to do the swap, make sure that you get all of that because you're going to need to change it all over.

ok, just to get it straight. an st and a gt engine box, are the same?

the only difference is the motor mounts? or is there a slight difference of the motor mounts locations?

The location is about the same but on the GT it's a little further back, when swapping into an ST you need to drill two holes for the mount but it's not as hard as it sounds... the locations are marked on the frame rail.

hi guys, thanks for all your input. the reason im asking about the 2 litre is that i can pick up the complete engine and bits for £250 with 32,000 miles on it. my other alternative is to repair my existing engine. bear in mind the car is only worth a few grand. cornwall is cold and windy, recovering from the new year !!!!!!!!!!
