I have a 95 3sgte that is going in my 96 celica st. I decided to go with a celica gt tranny and I got a ACT stage two racing cultch kit. My car is being worked on right now but the guys working on it weren't sure if it was ok to run that clutch with a stock 3s pressure plate. They said I may need an act pressure plate, the only problem with that is that they don't make one for this model. So, is it ok to run an act 4 puck clutch with a stock 3s pressure plate? Also they said to make this run right I would have to get an FMIC that runs pipes in and out on the drivers side or it won't work right. I got a FMIC that runs in on one side and out on the other. Is it better to run a same side FMIC or is it ok to run a regular FMIC with in and out on opposite sides?

if using the gt tranny with the 3sgte motor, you will need:
5sfe disk (or a custom made 3sgte disk, with the splines for the 5sfe tranny)
5sfe throwout bearing
5sfe alignment tool
3sgte pressure plate
3sgte flywheel (or just get your stock one resurfaced)

i dont know anything about using a stock pressure plate with an aftermarket clutch disc. id assume it would be a bad idea. as for an intercooler thats up to you, both style will work fine. a majority of swapped cars use the traditional style intercooler with inlets on opposite ends. its up to you and how you want to run the piping though. oh and where in CT are you?

I live in Avon,CT. My car is up at East Coast Swappers in Springfield,Ma. The reason I wasn't sure about the intercooler is because they said that if I used a traditional one that they would have to run the piping under the frame rail on the passenger side and they weren't sure if it would scrape or not but it seems that everyone else uses the regular FMIC. Also, do you know of any aftermarket pressure plates that I could get that would work with my setup. thanks.

Spec can make you a 3sgte kit with a 5sfe spline fitting.

ACT has all the parts you need [that's what I'm running on] - I have no idea whether or not using the stock pressure plate would be ok or not - I wouldn't risk it.
See my proflie for why you don't have to run the IC piping under the frame rail - you will loose the windshield washer reservoir tho.

You NEED to buy a brand new presure plate, clutch and throw out bearing.
ACT can sell you everything you need, but you need to mix and match parts from the two different motors to make it work.

5sfe Clutch-stage2 (or higher)
5sfe Throw out bearing
3sgte Pressure plate

Then tell them to have your stock flywheel resurfaced and have them change out the Rear Main Seal (buy a new one from toyota) while they are doing the clutch.

If you cheap out on any of these, youll just end up kicking yourself later when you have to spend 500 bucks on labor again in a month or two.
