Title says it all, anyone know the weight difference between a stock hood and a cf hood?
If not, how about any other oem part vs. it's cf counter-part? -------------------- |

I want to say that the stock hood on a at200-st204 model is about 40lbs? dont hate me if im wrong. I think last time i checked the factory style carbon fiber hood is under 20lbs or less.

x2 for celicaST, except i'm not calling anyone names... lol. ANYone with 5 squares has no right calling anyone a post whore
![]() ![]() But those measurments sound about right, i've repaired many body peices, and carbon fiber is usualy layed on a sheet of fiberglass or less, MOST are hollow; and will run about 15-25 lbs (im guessing) and full set, i would IMAGINE (never had my hands on that) would be like 35-40 bc it's solid... and for all the aftermarket inclusions included in ANY A.M. hood, that's alot of Resin... OEM aluminum, i'd guess arround 50-55lbs? they're pretty heavy, i'd actualy figure the actual figure to be more... but... just a guess... from someone who's had his hands on a few... And does CF wraps and fiberglass work... Just my .02 cents, does anyone have an official number? I dont exacly weigh my work when its done, lol. ![]() -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! D-man FTW! Damn D-Man - most impressive. so posting an informative post in this thread has earned me the name of a post whore? ill keep that in mind. the weights i posted are accurate. A CF hood is in no way 10lbs for our cars. it weighs anywhere between 15-20lbs(7-9kg). yes the factory hood is very heavy and is easily 40 lbs. And just as a BONUS! the OEM ST205 hood which is made out of aluminum is 20lbs(9kg). so theres my post whoring.

I always imagined a keg (kg) to weigh more than that (depends on if it's full) ![]() Really though; it looks like you'll save around 30 lbs or so; depending on if it's carbon wraped fiberglass; or if its Solid CF. Because solid is going to weigh more, but be more sturdy, and hold up in the long run. (obviously) I3arruka; what hood design are you getting? BUMP! Straight answer once and for all
According the the website given, our stock hood weighs 35.2 lbs, roughly a carbon fiber stock hood weighs 16.5 lbs. 35.2(HH) - 16.5(CF) = 18.7 lbs lighter ![]() -------------------- |

That's all that the stock hood weighs? 35 lbs? i guess it's cause didn't eaten my spinach the last time i picked one up... lol. I was close on the CF hood though... Also, is your CF hood solid or hollow? I'm guessing hollow, BC a solid one would have to weigh more... But only you can answer that question... the other day i went to super autotoyz, formally known as superautobacs. And they have a ek9 civic with a carbon fiber hood. the hood was open and I lifted the hood with one hand and it felt very flimsy and not durable at all. Ok so i understand that there is no such thing as a full carbon fiber hood. Its a fiberglass hood wrapped in carbon fiber.
So if I wanted to replace my stock hood with a fiberglass hood and paint it red, this would be possible right. I'm guessing that the idea of a fiberglass hood isnt such a great idea, since any slight bit off pressure on the hood and you would see a dent on it. So thats why they wrap fiberglassed hoods in carbon fiber to keep strong and durable. Im just trying to shave some weight off my car. What brand should i choose, which one should i not buy. Im looking for oem carbon fiber hood style Do you neeed hood pins???
