QUOTE(playr158 @ Mar 14, 2008 - 10:19 AM) BG products are a world better and safer for your motor than seafoam (BG 44k for instance) "octane boosters" are a waste of money and do nothing.... seafoam isnt safe? i dont know what to do. should i just get normal injection cleaner or the seafoam. |

QUOTE(D-Man @ Mar 14, 2008 - 10:15 AM) i personaly run some injector cleaner thru my system every few months or so, I dont notice a Rip-Raring difference or anything, but the genneral ride seems smother... Eh, it could all be in my head though Sometimes when you do something, its all in your head like bolt on parts. but really there is no significant difference. I recently bought a Celica and the guy I bought it from seafoamed the engine not too long ago, but at idle was rough (oscillating b/w 800-1000 rpm). How I solved the problem: I filled up with premium and added some STP fuel injector (or fuel system, I don't remember) cleaner. I don't think premium gas alone could have done it, so it must've been the STP treatment... Only cost me $3 at some gas station. |

Fuel injector cleaners work IF you have gummed up/clogged injectors, that said, I run some through every few tanks to keep from getting there. Seafoam is good, Chevron Techron is good, as is the Amsoil PI and Amsoil PowerFoam I use.
True octane boosters work, the Celicas just cant make much use of them. You need an octane booster to increase the fuels resistance to burning so you can run higher compression and advanced timing while reducing the risk of pre-ignition and detonation. If you have not modified your motors compression or timing, I wouldn't waste your money. I will however continue to run premium in my GT as that is what it recommends in the owners manual for "best performance" |
