ok so heres my situation, when i was going to work in the morning the car died on me when i made a stop, i thought i let the clutch go and killed it but no so i was like weird so i went on my way. as i kept going the car would loose rpm and shut off but would fire back up. so i made it to work and was going to check it after wards and once i got out the car wouldnt start tried jumoing it and nothing then we found that my wire to the fuse block was garbage so replaced that car started fine didnt bother moving it since i thought that was it so later on in the day im driving and it shuts off again now it wont hold idle and shuts off. now thats every toher try that i do because then it wont even crank or anything. Any idea of what this might be? any help would be great thanks fellow 6gc owners

doesn't sound like a motor problem at all. i would say look at your ground from your battery to the frame make sure its not rusty could be the alt. or maybe just replace the battery i would replace the termenals that are on it now with new shinny ones =P lol see if that works at all

i checked the grounds and they were good. The battery was reading 12.4 volts i think, I had a torn wire from the pos. to the main fuse block i believe. Fixed that and car started then shut off again. The alternator was good also, i also chekced the starter. a friend was telling me it could be the crank postion sensor. what do you guys think? thanks for all the knowledge you guys are spreading to me..

i would buy it brand new, because you never know if the same problem will show up again in a used one.

So all you need is the ignitor? The one hung by the fire wall?

I've got two of them. Both from a pick and pull and paid $15 dollars total. Confirm that what you need is an ignitor and I'll ship it out to you. Just pay shipping. And it will be on its way.

oh, if its in the distributer thats the ignition coil.

The ignitor itself is on the fire wall.

btw my local toyota dealer qouted me a little over 300 for the ignition coil. so i just bought a new distributor from auto zone.

Thank you.

So Ferngt4, did you ever find out if it was the ignitor or the ignition coil?

I'm pretty sure only the GT's have the ignitor on the firewall. have you put your car in diagnostics mode and see if you're throwing any codes? sounds like an ignition problem to me. when my ignition circuit messed up i got a code 14 and needed a new distrbutor

right by your driverside firewall there is a small little plastic box. thats your diagnostics box. so take a paper clip and stick it in the TE and E1 terminals to make a mini-circuit. theres a label on the inside of the box that has what slot is what, just like your fuse panel covers.

this should help man. but if you need anything more specific then just PM me, i'll help you out!
