edit: actually d-man, I'm getting about 300 to a tank as well, so either my math is off or one of us is calculating the size of the tank wrong lol

no, i just dont drive anywhere. I sit in traffic with the engine running for about an hour and a half each day. I'm only going 17 miles. But i dont drive 17 miles, I Idle 17 miles... each way. That's why it seems as if i'm getting poor mileage, but i'm not. it's just driving conditions. frown.gif

a quick and inexpensive way to start saving up for those maintenance costs is to change your spark plugs, wires and clean out your air filter. Your mileage should increase pretty well. Even if you don't drop a bunch of money on "the expensive stuff." You can easily get away with NGK copper plugs (like $2/pc or less). Wires cost what they cost, go to Amazon to order the NGK wires, they'll run you $40 which is less than the cheap-o wires from Schuck's! (and $23 less than they charge for the NGKs) If the $50 hasn't killed you, spend another 20 or so on a new distributor cap and rotor. Lastly, if you're due for an oil change, GET ONE! Look online for coupons if you need to... I know around here, Jiffy Lube always has some goober waving a sign around for a twenty dollar oil change for the next car to pull in.

I promise promise promise your car will feel like a new car (comparatively speaking, of course!) and your mileage will increase noticably. You guys pay WAY more for gas up there then we do down here in Portland, make it count at least!

Thanks for the advice. Shall do smile.gif

That's what I always got with combo city/highway unless I had the lean tune on my SAFC-II. As stated: Plugs, wires, Cap, Rotor, Oil change and air filter clean/change will help some.

You shouldn't be calculating your mileage by the size of your tank, since you don't run it dry each time you fill up. When you fill up, divide the number miles on the odometer by the number of gallons you've added to the tank. That's your mileage.

What I should do is fill up all the way, wait until it's half way gone, then look at the milage on the odo and fill up all the way again (look at gallons used). Been meaning to so I could get an accurate mpg, but always forget by the time it's at the half way mark. Yeah, I only fill up once ever two weeks or so, I don't drive too far usually. That's the reason for forgetting, just to let you know tongue.gif

each week i waste 50 dollars ,, i paid for gas $3.23
and i drive each week around 300-450 miles ,,
i think its around 25 to 29
oh and i keep a constant speed of 65 or 60 all the time and my engine is stock and it reads 130,150 miles on the odometer
and i think thats fine for me,, or not????

oooh and also everytime i fill the tank i add around 10 oz of lucas oil and it has recently help me to get better mileage, also the car feels smoother

Using the miles divided by the gallons/fill-up...I get about 15-17mpg but my drive to work is only 1.6 miles each way and I let the car warm up before driving so I probably burn more gas idling in the driveway than actually driving. I fill up about once every 3 months and gas on base is $3.05 a gal.

All you people in the UK and are close to a military base...get to know someone on the base and you can pay $3.05/gal as well. Either buy their gas vouchers off them or have them escort you on base and fill up at the mini-mart/shoppette. I noticed while I was in Guam that the gas off base was over $5.50 and on base it was $2.45.

this morning i paid 3.05 for regular unleaded. it cost me $39.65 for 13 gallons. i had reset the trip odometer the last time i filled up. so i figuered out i'm getting about 28 MPG. my commute is 50/50 city and highway.

boo hoo $3.05. I wish gas was 3.05 again. Damn OPEC!!!

anyway you divided the miles on your odo by around 13 to arrive at 28 mpg, right? 28 sounds about right.

unless it's really cold outside, you shouldn't let your car idle for more than 30 sec when you warm it up in the mornings. Ideally you should start driving after 30 seconds, just dont' push the engine until it has warmed up completely. I don't think you'll be running 1/4 miles to work though

^ That's absolutely true. Letting your car idle for long periods of time just wastes gas. We're not driving '53 Buicks or '77 Lincolns (god I remember that car from my early childhood...ugh) that back in the day, you HAD to let warm up before driving off. Treat 'er gingerly first thing driving off and it'll be just fine.

But isn't it true that a engine should be fully warmed up before shutting it down?
