unless the axle is making noise all you need to do is....
1. get a CV boot clamp
2. some axle grease
3. some gloves
4. some kind of pick

now, push the boot back from the part its on where the clamp is missing, look for any debris, drops of water, metal flakes. if there are none then pack it back up with some axle grease. dont pack it completely full, just abotu 1/3 to 1/2 or what looks like as much that came out. push the boot back, install the new clamp, clean it up nice and dry, and you should be good to go.

What is the pick used for? Do they sell cv boot clamps on their own? I've only seen them as a set with a new boot. Does the clamp need to be axle specific, or is there a generic "cv boot clamp". Sorry for all the questions, I've never done any axle work before.

like a knocking noise? cos that'll most likely mean at least one of them is gone.

I dont know about both but at least one of them is. you could always replace the one where all the grease is coming from and see if that helps and if not do the other one.

sorry, the pick is to help push the boot back if you need something to get under it to push it back.
i'm pretty sure you can buy just generic clamps. if not the buy the boot kit and just use the one clamp.
