Glad to be here, have been lurking on this forum and thought the community was great so have decided to join biggrin.gif

Basically im in the middle of a current car project which involves making a bmw 318xi. This car is basically supposed to be a 2dr mini suv that looks like the e36 line, im hoping when its done and at shows that people will believe bmw actually made it.

.... anyways ive kinda wanted to get a sport car for sometime, im tall tho like 6ft 3 and so most cars usually dont have a lot of tilt, i climbed into a 6gen celica and was delighted with how much space i had even without momo seats.

Im very interested in buying one of these, the gt4 isnt usually available here, im currious what would be involved and if possible converting a standard GT into a gt4 later on. and has anyone done a 6spd transmission swap? I know the next gen celica has one, but yeah that car is obviously too small and the 6gc looks nicer thumbsup.gif

I will post pictures of my work on my current project shortly, which has involved motor and tranny and transaxle swap and a massive ammount of body work.

thanks and hope to be posting more when and if i get this car that you all enjoy.

Where in Asia are you located. I'm pretty sure you can get a hold of the gt-four. I say if you want a celica wait for the gt-four and jump on it. Even after spending all the money and time to do a complete conversion to a regular celica, you still probably won't be happy. Just get something that was designed specically for awd turbo, the gt-four.

Oh, welcome to the site.

thanks man!

yah i think theres a few kicking around but itll cost a kings ransom to find one

Ive got time, because im short of money for a new car and cars here in se asia are mad expensive because the price doesnt depreciate all that much, the toyota supra prices for example are just insane more than it ever costed new 2 fold!

but the celica is appealing because i can take a nice looking car and make it better, ill consider what you say though about the gt4 if i can find one.

I have a lot more bodywork to do 40% done, i need to rework the hood in theme with the e36 and a hint of x3.

I have just finished installing a bmw318 motor, and will be turbochargining it and strapping an intercooler later.

IPB Image

had previously used 4" spacers to give me a wider wheelbase as i redid the bodywork and fenders, but the transaxle will need to go when i turbocharge it so ill be installing a 5series which will also give me the wheelbase i need.

Ive added a sunroof from a range rover, which makes this car feel like a convertable since half the roof can dissapear when switched on biggrin.gif

anyways will post more later, when the car comes together.

any advice on the celica conversion would be good to, but ill keep my eyes open for a gt4

Dude, I'm telling you wait for one, or you just be kicing yourself for not waiting. You can actually get a hold of them over there. We cant in the states. Just go to Thailand, I'm sure they got a few.

lol nice well im in the right country then, im part thai by the way thumbsup.gif

ive just found this one for 16,000$ aka 500,000 baht

I seen the celica gt4 on this thai website but im not sure if this is the real deal cuz it comes with automatic and not manual which makes me think its a gt4 look a like. we get lancer evo imitations and what not here laugh.gif

anyways heres the link for one such car, http://www.taladrod.com/Search/CarDetImg.aspx?cib=168703#1

hmm im actually doubting this, because there is no airbags or abs on it! i think im looking at around 25,000 for a gt4 if i do come across one here which is why if i can do a conversion it probably be more cheaper for me. I can get a decent 5 speed abs airbag equipped 2.2litre gt for around 18,000 or so.

That thing has the beams motor in there. Definately not a gt-four.

DUDE!!!! $18000 for a GT don't do it. We can get a GT here in the states for 9,000 tops in great condition.

Well, I'm not thai but I am Laos and I know for a fact there are no gt-fours there. Well I've never ever been to Asia but plan on going next year with the family, but will hit up Japan for a weekend. My dad was there a a few weeks ago and he said he just saw maybe 2 celicas and no gt-fours.

lmao sorry for the confusion!!!

the bmw motor i posted thats for my current project car im building which is that suv picture i posted biggrin.gif its a bmw m42 its not all that powerful but the compresion is great for the turbo ill do and hopefully get her up to near 200hp which is why im going to do a transaxle job for a 5series.

but yah for the toyota celica, that is in the link i sent, i agree its a lookalike.

lol i know cars are so expensive here but for the same price range 18grand i can get a oldskool prelude vtec but i cant fit it for sure no tilt! and the acura integra oldskool but also not much room. Its so unfair the prices here, even a 2 door 99 civic is pricey, anything thats remotely sporty looking!

the toyota supra and skyline is about 2.4 million baht so near 100grand or something frown.gif

My best bet will be to go to japan and cut one into pieces and then put it back together and swap papers or something laugh.gif

but yah the celica compared to the others is a better deal, i notice some of you guys are adding gt4 parts to your cars, maybe ill join you all and try to eventually convert mine into a gt4

thanks for the greetings guys!!!!

I think there is someone here on the forums who actually is going to japan or something like that, and he is going to cut a gt four and then bring it to the us, seems crazy but if you think about it it is a a pretty good idea considering the money you are going to save!

I already have all the gt-four parts for my celica, i am just waiting to get it painted, do that if you are more concerned with the exterior and not the power.
after doing that my next mod is a swap, but that is still faaar from now.

gt4 didn't come automatic i don't believe so ya. i wouldn't mind that motor though. you'll still get a good kick out of driving it. 16000$ do you mean United States Dollar? that's a hell of a lot of money for a really old car like ours. go to japan and buy it there then import it to wherever you're at. you can get a gt4 in japan for like $8k or so if not cheaper.

gt4s dont come auto if you convert you end up with 4 engine and not 4wheel drive if you go the whole hog conversion it would be cheaper to import ypourself a good one but if its looks get a gt and change bonnet bumper and raiser blocks all the looks and decent power from a standard 3sge engie biggrin.gif
