SO I found a rebuilt 5sfe on ebay specifically for the 97-2001 camry. Obviously all 5sfe's are interchangeable, BUT what will I need to do to the motor for it to run right on my 94 chasis. Can I just swap over the distributor from my motor and have no troubles electronically? I think I read some where about the camrys going distributorless. Let me know because I will need a new motor to work off of for boost since I think my motor is on its way.

the 2002+ camry have a different engine and are distributor-less.
everything should swap over. If in doubt swap your old sensor/parts in. |

Thanks, I figured that was the case. I was planning on swapping everything over any way. Thanks a lot.

While all 5SFEs are interchangeable, there are a couple of things. For one, the Camry engine has balance shafts, yours doesn't. They won't effect how the engine bolts in, but they will rob some [relatively small] hp. In addition, they have no distributor, which you already know. Because they have no dist, there is the possibility your dist might not bolt in correctly to the head. There is still a hole in the head/valve cover, but you probably want to make sure the camshaft has the slot for the dist, it might not [if the part # is the same for a Celica and Camry intake camshaft you should be fine]. You will want to swap your intake manifold and valve cover. However, leave the Camry exhaust manifold [unless/until you're going turbo] if it comes with the engine, it's better than the Celica one. -------------------- ![]() |
