I'm going with a 5sfe build and I need to find a good set of Forged Pistons to handle (high rpms...moderately speaking). What's out there? Anyone with a set they got and the pistons have proven themselves??

I've been researching this for the last month or so straight. It looks like JE would be the best bet with Wiseco in a close second. Both are relatively the same price ($700 for forged pistons/peened rods). Do you plan on putting a turbo on eventually?
I'm interested in what others have to say as I plan on putting a turbo on as soon as the engine is broken in. |

QUOTE(airforceb2cc @ Apr 2, 2008 - 2:10 PM) I've been researching this for the last month or so straight. I've been contemplating the idea of modifying with a turbo, but honestly I am very skeptical of the whole idea cause of past issues I've had...Maybe after I put on 30K on the rebuild, I'll look more into it. BLCKCELICA95 did the turbo on his so I gotta check that out when time's available (if that's ok Blckcelica95). Other than that, I'm going to do the port/polish on the head, shave the head a bit, put those forged pistons in, add a set of "colt cams" with minor fuel man. upgrades and go from there. I just want to be able to bring the car up to 6500 rpm on a frequent basis without hurting the internals...if they're forged, than it shouldn't be a prob. I think I read somewhere that the stock crank for our celicas is already forged. That's cool. |

just let me know when you want to swing buy. when I rebuilt my engine i dropped my comp. down., alittle for the help with the timing issue ( detonation problem) that the 5s has when boosting at higher levels. i have had my turbo on from day one. i had it turned down to stock boost level and never punshed it the frist 1500 miles. and turned it up slowly.

yea you gotta keep off the boost or use it easily during break in; I learned that with a talon I had after I had it built. I threw on a manual boost control and boosted it to 17 psi from its stock setting of 11 psi. That any my block off bearing to the balance shaft elimination kit (which was installed backwards) lead to spinning all 4 rod bearings. It sucked. I really want to build my 5s for N/A but that turbo option is like the devil on my shoulder...it keeps nagging me and nagging me so I do but I don't want to get high comp. pistons.
