"'Miracle Marine'" dies after beating odds

Also, check his site out:
http://merlinsmiracles.com/#

This guy deserves much respect and the thoughts and prayers for him and his family and friends left behind.

Nah Shannon, you gotta lift yourself up! It's your B-day for Christ's Sake! If I were near, I would buy you some rounds and we would party like it is 1999.... er.... 2099

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the hills, from the lake,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.

Go to sleep, peaceful sleep,
May the soldier or sailor,
God keep.
On the land or the deep,
Safe in sleep.

Love, good night, Must thou go,
When the day, And the night
Need thee so?
All is well. Speedeth all
To their rest.

Fades the light; And afar
Goeth day, And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well; Day has gone,
Night is on.

Thanks and praise, For our days,
'Neath the sun, Neath the stars,
'Neath the sky,
As we go, This we know,
God is nigh.

my response will make me sound like a prick but i really dont care, but that's what happens in wars. it sux and i feel for his family but why does the news/media focus on one person like this? i dont understand when they report one incident when sh** like this happens every day. its the harsh reality of wars. this guy isnt any more special than anybody else overseas so to me, its ignorant to have these kinda stories on the news. im sure if u go to any military hospital in iraq u will see many other people like this and its tragic.

Um first off, I really did rescue a fish from drowning once. Second, I understand the situation, but these things happen. Last, what is humor if it is never at one's expense? I'll give you time to think about it.

The focus isn't on him because he died, it's because of how close he came to making it while many others didn't [those kind of burn victims almost never survive], and more importantly, what he did with what he had left.
Most people don't give a $hite about others on their good days.
On his bad day [beats any bad day you or I ever had] he used the bad he received for good.
That's why it's special and important.

Humor at ones expense is when someone slips on the ice and you laugh, or gets hit in the head with a basketball and falls over.
Someone dying isn't humor, and any crap about you have to laugh at life will illustrate the lack of a clue you really have.
I'll laugh at almost anything, and am normally a far from serious person. Someone dying is one of the few times when you should be serious, or at least contain your humor [in the context you used it].

How much time do you need to think about that?
If that doesn't penetrate your thick skull, give me a holler when your mom and dad die and I'll be more than glad to tell some jokes.

Umm shogunkid I think if you go up and read alltracmans first few lines where he writes
"The focus isn't on him because he died, it's because of how close he came to making it while many others didn't [those kind of burn victims almost never survive], and more importantly, what he did with what he had left.

"ummmm" when did i ever say they did a story because he died? never once have i mentioned death. i said suffering in intensive care. i understnad where you're comin from but obviously you don't understand me. TONS of people go through this sh*t. People are going overseas and risking their lives to serve this country. EVERYBODY overseas is doing something for the common good and im sure every day is a bad day for them. they dont wake up every morning and say..."Hey...what a great day to be in Iraq." People suffer just like him...physically, mentally, and emotionally. Being away from home not even seeing their babies being born..im sure tons of those guys/girls have never even met their child before.

what he did was just an added bonus that almost anybody can do. a guy from my church got hit by a car and is now paralyzed from the neck down and has opened up a foundation to help others just like him...where are the news vans??? wheres the media to report it??? i dont ssee him getting any attention. Why not? Ohhh i forgot. he's just some average joe that wont help boost their ratings. i forgot

im with Shogun on this one. Sorry to see the guy go, but people only feel sorry for the ones that show up on TV. Feel for them all not just him. Im glad that he was able to get through what happen to him and do something good with what he had left of his life. But feel for them all, alive or dead, not just him.

Never Did I say I didn't feel for them all...This was posted so I showed respect...so am i suppose to show disrespect for this bc not every person is posted up here?

Everyone has there views and this is a touchy subject but it would be hard for me to every say that I didn't really care when this poor man lost his life serving his country....sure there are so many others and I pray for them just as much as this man as I think we all should.

Jeremy your a good friend of mine and u have been in the war witnessed it all first hand so maybe we should take a second and thank you for what you did for this country.

If you don't agree with this lets so some respect for someone who is part of our community since he is a part of all of us.

Well, I wasn't making fun of this person dying, although to defend the comments towards me, I will say this. I see things black and white. If you can find the humor in such things, than so be it. I guess my whole point is, with me, I see no point in exceptions. Exceptions are like excuses, and I see things black and white. Either are or not. So if I make a joke and laugh, yet you do not find it funny, then that is fine.

If you are still on this site, I shall let you know when either one dies, I think a good joke would cheer me up. As I did not joke about the man dying, but simply said a joke (But I did rescue a fish from drowning!!!!)

And sorry if I am coming off like an ass. Oh, and I agree with Shogun which is the spark of my first comment. I feel the same way.

Really?
It does?
Why don't you post up some links then?
I'm interested in this, there should be quite a list.
We don't need the news stories, just the charities they've started.
I don't mean normal people that start charities [because that's what the vast majority are], but someone that has gone through something horrific, and made something good out of it.

As for it being ignorant, why?
What stories should we have on the news?

This is the entire point that has obviously sailed right over your head.
Almost anyone can, but how many actually do?
That is EXACTLY why it's special.

And this Marine wasn't an average joe?
He originally was in the news because he survived burns so bad he wasn't expected to live.
That is NOT what most of the military in Iraq is doing or has done. Most haven't even been injured, and Merlins story isn't about his hardships in Iraq. That sucks, but it's nothing compared to his injuries. I would MUCH rather spend 2 years away from my family and miss my childrens' birth than be burned like he was.
I would also take being shot almost anywhere, or even losing a limb to what he was stuck with.

You didn't forget, you never had a clue.
Before mature people consider your opinion important you need to lose the college kid [have you gotten that far?] mentality and actually think your prejudices through.
Not because you disagree with me, but the way you disagree. It shows you don't understand what you're talking about yet.
