according to this, toyota started putting in the beams in december of '97. i've always considered anything after september to be the next model year, ie a car built in december of 97 would be considered a 98.

Look to the left of your ACIS manifold, notice 2 nozzles pointed at eachother joined with a small black hose? The plastic one on the left (PCV Valve or positive crankcase ventilation valve) flows oil vapour which is forced out by intense crankcase pressure into the one on the right the ACIS manifold and through the entire intake system to be burned with the air and fuel.
Burning oil is good for lowering octane, reducing engine power and sludging the inside of the manifold. A blow-by catch tank connects between the two and catches the oil before it enters the manifold. Even after 1 drive exposing the motor to some 1st and 2nd gear WOT operation the tank has enough golden oil in it to cover a large frying pan for bacon and eggs. This is the 2nd cheapest/easiest modification after a pod filter -------------------- Mike W

Is it quite easy to replace dash lights? I want to put bright white ones in, also have to do my ignition ring maybe my cigarette lighter (even though i never use it) -------------------- |

Catch tank is bout $50 or $60, You'll need to get your own oil hose for it as the one provided with the tank is too thin and small, it constricts and probably melts, stupid chinese stuff. Can get it from Super Cheap Auto or Repco.
The dash is pretty simple, theres a long plastic trim piece over the steering wheel and ignition ring u just pull out and it exposes all the screws u need to unscrew, 8 in total to pull out the gauge cluster... 4 along the top trim piece and 4 on the gauge cluster... just carefully pull it out and then squeeze out the 3 wiring harness clips... the 3 biggest bulb holders are the ones for the background colour... its a 12v source so LED's need to be resistored. So just buy the direct replacement bulbs from that site, its the T10's (direct replacement for Type 194) u want for the gauge cluster and the little T5's (direct replacement for Type 74/75) for your glove box, ignition ring, coin holder, cigarette lighter ring, the small warning lights in the gauge cluster...... Its very easy (5 minute job) once u know where every snap and screw is, and theyre mostly obvious... TBH your rear speaker installation is a dog of a job compared to this -------------------- Mike W

Another picture from the front
I used 2 metres of oil hose from ENZED costed $20, cut it in half and routed the oil lines for the catch tank around the back, perfect now as before I had short hoses over the top which were starting to melt. ![]() EDIT: There was nowhere for it to fit on the left side, just that little place hanging off the strut brace on the right is all I could find. Those dash lights look awesome.
I am interested in your oil catch set up. Does the can just fill up or does the oil get sucked back into the motor? Also is it just me or do you have 2 connections on the acis thing and one in the manifold aswell? Also I think the pre beams ssIII is the ssII but with an LSD and superstrut suspension. Is that correct. -------------------- ![]() 1994年 トヨタ 神々しい My Facebook My Bebo QUOTE (loll6g @ Nov 6, 2008 - 5:53 AM) automatics are for lazy ass drivers who jst want there car so that they can look cool |

Yeah, The can fills up, the one I bought is crap though, the good ones have the vacuum port at the top and the oil port at the bottom and there's a separator inbetween and you stuff steel wool in the bottom to filter oil vapors sucking through from the top, however mine seems to fill up which suggests that its working to some extent.
Yep the stock intake hose has 2 ports on it, a little one for ACIS, and a fat one for something else. Hence the difficulty in installing my aluminum ram pipe since it only has 1 nipple and it doesn't match any of the 3s-ge vacuum hose sizes. And you are correct about SS-II and SS-III, You may be interested to know that in 1994 there was no SS-III but there was a special "super strut suspension equipped SS-II" and in 1998 both the SS-II and the SS-III had the Yamaha Beams motor but once again SS-III was equipped with LSD & super strut suspension. Also in many instances of the same year model SS-III gets more body kit parts. -------------------- Mike W

When you talk about your intake hose is that the between the pod and manifold? Do you have to hook up the tank via the intake?

Oh nah the tank hooks on between a valve on the engine cover and a port on the manifold itself, by the norm they'll just be connected with a small black hose

Cool might have to try and do it. Just reading this and it says how to baffle it so it works better or something.

Yeah that's good advise, I haven't done that yet but as I said the tank seems to fill up anyways, Performance wise I haven't really noticed a difference, But the oil I see in the tank I'd rather it be there instead of inside the ACIS manifold.
