Awhile back that was talked about on here...and it was pretty much concluded that they meant the veilside shift knob had a 6speed shift pattern on it. wink.gif

EDIT- But speaking of which. i really want a 6spd tranny...in 5th gear i hit like 3.5-4k on the tach when i go about 70-75 on the highway. Im sure it eats up gas pretty bad, and when i go even faster i feel like i would run out of gear at about 100. frown.gif So yeah...anybody around here ever get different ratio gears?? smile.gif

If you got the ST, you can pull out your gearbox and replace it with the 6 speed gearbox from the 7th gen celica

One of the only times i'm glad i bought an ST...

I don't know, but I'd just go to a Toyota dealership where no one knows you and ask about getting a replacement gearbox for your 6 speed 7th gen. Haha.

I was just telling him how he could get one. I never said if it would work or not.

Has anyone put the 7th gen tranny in a 6th gen ST yet? I do a ton of highway driving and would love to have an extra gear. If the gear ratios were changed and made wider wouldnt it make my car slower than it already is though? As we all know the ST cant afford to lose much power.

That 6 speed tranny is RWD...

I highly doubt the 2ZZ tranny will bolt up to the 6th gen...

lol....

there is no way it would work. However, the 4age black top 6spd will work on an ST. Good luck doing it though.

Actually...I don't think the 4A blacktop tranny will work either... It's a RWD tranny...

The Black Top 20v transmission is FWD...I don't think they would go from a FWD Silver Top and drastically change the drivetrain to RWD with the Black Top.

You are probably thinking of the older Corollas (AE86) with the 4AGE and RWD.

um... even tho it is RWD, it should still work with some modification. i mean look at all the guys running around with 3sgte's that have Mr2 tranny's. mr2 = RWD. to my knowledge that should work, but u need some modification to it. i believe u take one part off of the tranny and put that same part except from your original tranny on it and it works. of course its not as simple as what i just said, but from the GT comparison, it should work on an ST.

EDIT: or maybe it isnt RWD, either way it should work w/ slight mods.

Apparently nobody read/believes what I posted earlier. The 6 spd Transmission found on the AE111 Black Top 4AGE 20v is freakin' FRONT WHEEL DRIVE! And that transmission only came with the Blacktop 20v (read not 4AGZE). Hell if anyone doubts me check out Jarco and give them a call since they have 3 Black Top clips with 6 spd trannys.

BTW: if anyone is interested in a AE101 4AGZE front clip, Jarco has one with 63k miles for $1995

And about the MR2. If you consider where the engine is located and how it is set up you will realize it is much like a FWD Transverse mounted engine, but only in the rear. The only person that I know of that has used the MR2 tranny with a 3SGTE is Dirty.

I stand corrected... I always thought the Levins were RWD... cause they were offshoots of the Truenos, which were sporty RWD corollas... similar to the Levins...

As for the MR2...it's a Mid engine design... so it's not really considered a RWD tranny... and no...you cannot modify RWD trannys to work with FWD cars. RWD trannys don't have sprockets for axles (as far as I know)... instead, they transfer power through a drive shaft to a rear diff to the rear wheels...
