What is considered 6th Gen related?

Obviously OEM 6th Gen parts are, but what about things that can be used on a 6th Gen?
Is a universal O2 sensor related? It can be used on one.
What about a case of Royal Purple engine oil?

How about a Mustang 70mm TB?
It's not for a 6th Gen at all, but it can be used on an aftermarket sidefeed manifold for a 3SGTE swap...

The reason I'm asking isn't to be facetious, I would like this seriously considered because I would like to put some tools up FS here. I originally put them in OT [I thought it belonged there, my fault], but they apparently don't belong there.
They aren't directly for a 6th Gen, but are definitely usable on one.
Tools in question.

Your thoughts on this are welcome; I would like to sort this out. smile.gif

The reason i closed your thread was because of this rule under the OT stickies:

QUOTE (Coomer @ Nov 14, 2005 - 8:08 PM) *
3. For sale posts are not allowed in this forum. If you want to sell something not related to the sixth generation Celica, you will need to do it elsewhere, and not on this site.

Regarding the Mustang 70mm TB and other universal parts, i would refer to the buying & selling rules found in the sticky:

QUOTE (Coomer @ Dec 16, 2002 - 1:20 AM) *
3. Please post things relating ONLY to sixth gen. Celicas in this forum. Universal parts(such as 52mm gauges, stereo equipment, etc.) are alright, as long as it will fit in the sixth gen. Celica.

QUOTE
1. Please do not post any advertising in these forums. Group buys must be approved by me beforehand, so PM me so we can talk before you post your group buy.

2. If you're selling something, your topic title must start with "FS:", followed by what you're selling (in the topic title, not the topic description.) If you want to buy something, your topic title must start with "WTB:", and again, must include what you want to buy. If these 2 rules are not followed, your thread WILL BE DELETED.

3. Please post things relating ONLY to sixth gen. Celicas in this forum. Universal parts(such as 52mm gauges, stereo equipment, etc.) are alright, as long as it will fit in the sixth gen. Celica.

4. Once your transaction(or all transactions, in the case of multiple items for sale, group buys, part-outs, etc.) is complete, you must edit the topic description(the box under the title) to say "COMPLETED". It's extremely important that the topic title and the post are left unchanged! Management will lock the topic, and it will remain visible and intact for use with the buyer/seller reputation system.

See this says to me that anything related to 6 gen celicas and if they can work on celicas are fine too. it would seem to me that tools that can be used on 6 gen celicas would be find to post. Like would couldnt sell Standard tools on this forum because they wont fit on our cars, but Metric do, so why cant we sell those on here?

Nope.

The point is where do we draw the line if you allow tools in the FS section? Do we want to sift through "FS: Tool" posts when we're looking for car parts? Its not just a localized thing. If we allow one thread to run (although alltracman has good stuff to sell), everyone will have a tool to sell to make some extra cash. This is a make/model specific forum, not ebay.

I would be interested to hear Coomer's take on this.

FS:tool
"6-12 mm ratchet set"

i think that stuff like that should be allowed...It obviously is related to the celica...anything under 10$ with shipping should not be allowed...

but yeah obviously me need to see wat coomer thinks..

Please keep this relaxed, it isn't a bitch thread, I'm trying to sort out what I see as an issue with the interpretation of a certain rule. smile.gif

I totally understand that. smile.gif
This thread wasn't intended as a "why was my thread closed", but as a "hey can we do this" thread.

To me that would apply to my tools as well. Both of the tools are DIRECTLY applicable to the 6th gen, and are relatively common tools that would be used on them. As someone already stated, I'm not trying to sell a set of standard wrenches, or a fuel line tool for a Ford.

IMO this is directly applicable to the site.
I don't see there being that many tool FS posts [there aren't on any other Celica forum I've been on, even MR2OC doesn't have many in a much larger site with a special tool section...], and even if there were, why is that bad? You need tools to put the parts you buy on; if I or someone else has one better/cheaper than you can normally get locally, what's the issue?

I know I have a personal interest in this, but if someone is selling that 70MM TB that Itchy B wants for his RMR? intake manifold, or those AN fittings Shannon needs for her 5SFTE setup, or that 3" 304 SS exhaust piping Manny needs for his car, you have to "sift" through all those, yet my tools [and potentially others] are just as applicable and able to help someone modify, maintain or repair their 6GC.

I'm with Colin on this...this is not a place to come to buy tools...it's a place to come to buy sixth gen. Celica related parts. It's always been this way, and we plan to keep it the same.

I think a lot of the members on the site believe the for sale section needs some work....if you only allow members with a certain amount of post and so on to sell and then we allow tools what should it matter bc most of the other junk will be filtered out anyway but now you can at least somewhat trust the seller. I don't see a big deal if they are saving a member money down the line. So then the clothes that are on there should be closed bc its not like the celica is wearing them or that they directly relate to the celica(sorry griffgirl im just making a point)...the tools can be used on a celica and the argument can keep going...cant we take a vote or something since the for sale section is more for the members here with a celica...see what they agree on.

I'm not trying to cause any problems but there really are worst things then posting tools up. Im only cutting in bc I no alltracman is the last person to cause problems and I no he is trust worthy and has a good argument.

The point is that people don't come here to search for tools...if members want tools they know to go to eBay or many of the other sites online that sell tools. People come here to get stuff for their sixth generation Celica. This site has always been, is currently, and will be strictly for the sixth gen. Celica. I'm failing to see any clothes posts in the buying/selling forum, but if you're talking about 6gc.net shirts or something, that's something exclusive to this site that you just can't get elsewhere, and is sixth gen. related.

I realize that tools are indeed related to the sixth gen. Celica, but then again, most things can be in some way. One could argue that an iPod is related, because it can hook up to a stereo installed in a sixth gen. Celica, or that a digital camera is related because it can be used to take photos of a Celica. There's a certain threshold that we have to stick to, otherwise the forums will be polluted with miscellaneous stuff.

I think this is a perfect example of one of the many rules on this site that makes absolutely zero sense.

Yet another thing that really bugs me about 6gc. None of the input from members is ever taken into consideration. Its all "my way or the highway".
