I just want to know what people think about this starter kit.

http://www.spraygunworld.com/products/AdvanceTools/index.htm
other forums say these guns are basically disposable

what about this kit?
DEVILBISS FINISHLINE 3 HVLP 2 GUN BASECOAT/ CLEARCOAT AND PRIMER GUN COMBO KIT

What to look for in a gun would be helpful.

TIA

To be honest 200.00 will get you a descent primer gun ... A all around good starter gun that is good for both base and clear are the devilbiss plus, devilbiss CVI(my favorite ), and the SATA RP.....
now I use a seperate gun for everything my line up is a SATA jet 90 for primer , a SATA RP digital for sealer a SATA NR2000 for Base(HVLP) and its awsome for metalics and pearls, and a DEVILBISS CVI for my clear, all with a 1.3 cap.... ALL Of those guns except the SATA NR2000 operate nicely at 40-45psi and the SATA NR2000 between 10PSI and 20 PSI The SATA's run between 500-700 and the devilbiss run between 4-500. Sometimes by looking at a pawn shop you can find them USED but just make sure the tips arent scared in any way and the fluid needles arent bent. I picked up my JET 90 that I use for primer for 30.00

on those cheaper non name brand guns you can expect to use them a few times and get a good result from it. but its when you begin to take it apart for a very good cleaning that these guns tend to fail. the tolerances aren't as close as brands such as devilbiss, sata, sharpe and so on.... i have heard real good things from the Sata NR95 but never used it. i LOVE the Sata jet HVLP 3000 Digital series. thats what i used for my basecoat's, sealers, and clear sometimes but for clear i prefer the Sata jet RP 3000 digital. for my thicker material like primers, i use the NR95 with a 1.6mm-1.7mm needle/nozzle set up. the 3000's are quite expensive, but i have come to learn that you get what you pay for.
What i use..
primer- Sata NR95 with 1.7mm needle/nozzle
Sealer/Basecoat- HVLP Sata JET 3000 Digital with 1.5mm needle/nozzle
Clear-RP Sata JET 3000 Digital with 1.3 needle nozzle

HVLP-High Volume, low pressure- creates a better transfer effeciency than conventional gun.
Bottom line.. if you are spraying once.. to practice, or want to just get a few jobs out of it. buy a cheap set of guns from harber freight/northern tool/ ATD...whatever.
RP- Reduced Pressure.. allows you to spray the material very quickly without spraying the material down dry. still better transfer effeciency than conventional guns.
Also, i would go with a Gravity feed gun over a syphon feed. gravity feels better in the hand, and easier to use when spraying a roof.

Good luck, hope it helped

Erich
