Well summer is over and winter will be here soon and i will need to get a second car that has AWD as my commute to work now has several very steep hills, very steep. Over here in vancouver/portlan we dont get a whole bunch of snow, but we get alot of ice and when the hills ice over i dont really want to go try and drive my celi up them:/ and now that my leg is healed enough i will be able to go snowboarding again this year so i will be making trips up to the mountain, and i most definately do not want to do that in my celi.

So i have been FINALLY decide to buy a second car that has AWD and that i like enough that i can put some money into it and make faster:)

I figure my celica will be my "show" car and my second car will be my "go" car wink.gif

Honestly i'd love to dump 20k into a celi and make it AWD V6 but, realistically that doesnt make any sense, so i figure i'll add some more money into it(lower it, paint it, rims, tint) but thats it, not really any preformance.

SO with all that said, i am looking to spend around 5k on something with AWD that has potential for more power. I like the Subaru Legacy, looking at 98 GT soon:), but i would be up for some other cars as well. Obviously Subaru has AWD standard so i am kinda looking at them the most, but i figured i'd see what the community has to say about this.

Basically i am looking for an older AWD car, 4 door preferrably, 2 doors is ok as long as it is a hatch back, must be an attractive car(no wagons). So please list any expierence you have and any suggestions:) looking around 5-6k

thanks alot you guys

aww i was about to say find a corolla all trac wagon 5 spd. That would be a nice ride for me personally or a AWD legacy. I'd go for the subaru sounds like a good thing to have.

it sure as hell would be a fun sleeper though!

i would seriosly consider a subby 2.5rs 5 speed...you can easily make them AWD and you can also throw a sti engine in when you save your pennies up..might be a good winter car and also a fun project...kinda like this one...i absoutly LOVE this car

Dont get the sc300... be a balla and get sc400 with 2jze motor out of supra, then turbo it:)

Ya i like the 2.5rs, always have, but i think a 4 door car is more for me(i've only seen 2.5 rs in 2 doors, did they make them a 4 door?) just so i have more room to haul stuff and snowboard gear....

The SC400 has a V8, not the 2JZE, that's the SC300.

Subaru is a good choice. Be aware that in the generation of Legacy's that you're looking at (95-99) they have head gasket issues and the cam seals tend to go out early. Make sure that they've been replaced already.

That being said, the Legacy GT is a more family-oriented version of the Impreza 2.5RS. They do come in 5sp, but good luck finding one. The LGT mostly came in automatic.

Someone on NASIOC's 97 LGT

Ya well i have found some locally that are a 5 speed, im not looking for really quick right now, i am still in the informations gathering part of this, if i can swap in a bigger motor later down the line then it is looking like a go... But i can find a used A4 for fairly cheap as well... I saw a 4 door 2.5rs today and wasnt very impressed with it:( but.... research research research is the name of the game right now

Thanks for your guys input, i'd still like to hear what some other people have to say, can anyone recomend anything other than a subaru?

thanks

if it had to be an old AWD car, i'd go for a 4th or 5th gen alltrac. it should have enough room for a snowboard with the rear seats down. all you need is to get a good set of winter tires....... then you should have lots of fun going up/down the mountain. that should definitely be within in the 5-6k mark.

That was my orginal train of thought... BUT that car would be big enough to fit me +1 person and gear... this might come as a shock but i do have more than 1 friend smile.gif lol, really i do. Thats why i am thinking something bigger, like a 4 door(i'd do a two door if i had to though)

Thanks for the input though:)

Keep it coming you guys
