Hi guys, just a quick question..(again). i was looking at some 'lumpy cams' from 'FENSPORT TUNING'.
for anybody who has uprated their cams on an st202, or has knowledge of it,... are they worth the money?. what are the power gains on a pretty much standard celi? and is there anything i should buy in conjuction to get the best out the cams (remapped ecu or something) many thanks in advance,.
if this has been covered in a previous thread, i oppologise.. Russ

what's the duration you're looking to get ?

Cams are a good mod, just make sure you the one that matches your future or other modifications, also the depending on the duration you may need other parts ( shims, valve springs etc )

on a stock engine, there are gains to be obtain and you'll feel the difference, don't forget to check other sources as well, I've heard that fensport can be expensive, so as long as the cams are made from a reputable company and have the same duration the results will be the same.

my knowlege of HP on the celica is that any NA power upgrade you do you'll only get 70%-80% unless you get a new ECU to unlock the additional power.

cams, you easly can get 272deg, but watch your lift after i think its 10mm you'll need springs, but other than cams you'll need cam gears and a tune.

ah here's the information I was thinking of previously: http://www.turbomr2.com/MR2/Reference/TVIS/TVIS.htm

191.23 Nm / 4800 rpm (almost 100Nm a litre) & the switch over is 5100rpm or 5200rpm, also I'm not 100% sure about this but during the switch over it advances timing, by a ECM (electric control module) or ECU?, I like your idea about taking 2 dyno runs (open and closed)

and finally (thanks again to KoreanJoey from CelicaTech) The Ultimate 3S-GE Tuning Guide

thanks guys.. does anyone know of well-priced cams or where i can get them from? as 'culpable04' said, FENSPORT are quite exspensive for their HKS cams, i was hoping i could get some cheaper...

CULPABLE04', pardon my ignorance, but what didi you mean by the 'duration' of the cams??

Cam duration, usually express on degrees is how many degrees the lift on the lobe last. Usually more duration = more lift and the higher the lift the more tuning / supportive mods you'll need.

Hey man!!! Where's my props? Who do you think gave that to Joey??? j/k.....I'm really glad to see that people are using that article. When I first read it I about fell out of my chair......I couldn't believe someone took the time to write that up. I hope 3SGE tuners continue to utilize that article. So far I haven't found anyhting better.

On another note......Rusty, what do you know about using an E56 tranny with a built up 3SGE??? Tht'a the tranny that was delivered with my 3S. Most people use S54s, but the E series were more heavy deaty and all came with LSD. So....I guess I'm looking for someone to tell me whay I should or should not use the E56. Gt any pointers?

Aw, man..I'm just kidding about that.....no apologies. I have an tranny article written by the same guy who wrote the above referenced article and it says that all E series came from the factory with a viscous type LSD. As far as my E56 goes, that's all I know about it. I know that when I drop the 3SGE/E56 in the car I'll need drive shafts from a Celica that had LSD becuase the input splines won't be long enough otherwise. The electronic tach plug can be removed and replaced with the mechanical unit from my ST162.

I think they used that tranny for the V6 Camry.........so perhaps parts aren't hard to get afterall???

I'm pretty good these days. I finally figured out all of the vacuum/sensor/VSV stuff that is on the back of my GE that I was bugging you about. Thanks again for the help/pics. I ordered all the parts I need (or around 90%). For a few weeks I was getting deliveries from Toyota just about everyday. I'm all ready to go for the swap (I think). Just waiting for Tweak to send me the harness. Can't wait.

What's new with you? I haven't seen you on C-tech for a while.
