not agressive enough....?? those are the most agressive sideskirts that probably will ever be available in the US unless spending up the anus to import some JDM ones OR custom making your own... if i didnt already have the SSV lotus skirts purchased id definatly get those, the price is really good!! ESP with that kinda fitment! total price on the lotus are 240 in the continental US (220 since im picking em up from his house). BTW i wish i could draw 1/2 as good as you!!

Okay so I drew a new concept design based on the comment about the air vents the Supra has.... This is once again just a concept and will not be excatly what the finished product looks like.

I am still alittle sceptical about haveing the piece come back onto the door like it is drawn in the concept... this would be really hard for this to hold up over time and am giving some thought to changing the desing slightly to eleminate this.

Also with this design you would be required to cut into rear clip of your car to make the side skirts funcional... this would be a permanet mod to your car and would be really hard to fix... I am thinking about making the side skirts a two piece design that would give you the option of just leaving the body of the car alone or making the piece funcitonal.... this would require a body shop to make the modifications even though I would include a detailed how-to I still would suggest haveing a shop do this..

Also if I make the two piece design expect the cost to go up a little but will still try to keep it within the $200-$300 range for the set.

Newayz here is the design

Concept design 2

Please feel free to make suggestions on this design

Thanks

wow, that definatly looks amazing. But will that aerodynamically help the car? seems like a lot of drag.

NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. I know I was your biggest critic, and I must say I'm not sorry, b/c the new design is AWESOME. I can't wait 'til you take some orders, I want to be #1 for that 2-piece. Thanks so much for all your effort. Once again sorry for being such a prick. When do you think you'll start production of those? Thanks again.

I actually bailed on work for an hour today to finish the mold of the original piece... I am going over there in just a few minutes to check on it and make sure the mold cured right... this weekend I am going to start sculpting the design so I will need any and all suggestions about the design posted here by Saturday night...

Once I start the design it will be hard to change the idea... also I have decided that I will not have the sideskirt come back down the car onto the door as it is in the concept skecth... this would be too hard to keep on the car for any pieriod of time... If you guys REALLY want it I will do it but I think it would be a bad idea to have it like that.

Other wise the side skirt will look alot like the concept design.

One last thing that I would like for you guys to decide for this....

Do you want the top of the side skirt to be edged of it would look like it does when a body piece is not molded in.... just like in the photo that forkee posted of the supra.

Or would you want it smoothed out so a body shop could mold it in to the car??

I think the 1st option would be the better choice becouse that why you can still have it molded in if you want or you can keep it with the body line it creates....

I know that might be confusing but try and figure it out.

Thanks

There will really be only a slight bit of drag if you don't make the skirts functional and almost no drag if they are functional.

what will happen if you don't make the skirts functional what will happen when you drive it the scoop will fill with air creating a pocket and the air will stay trapped it the scoop forcing new air to just flow over the opening... eliminating drag.

Thanks

(now wheres that front bumper i ordered......)

p.s.- i honestly dont mind if the scoop isnt functional, i'd rather just have it go over the existing body than have to cut into it

biggrin.gif forkee...

That's actually really close to what I have in mind.... might even use that photo as a model for the sculpting!

As for a production date... the replica mold was finished last night... I am going to make the replica piece tonight.... Thursday I'm going clubbin... Friday I am gonna spin at DREAMLAND and then Saturday I will start the sculpting... so hopeful by Tuesday I will have the passanger side completed and have the finished piece. Then I will have to do the same process for the other side..

I am hoping to have these ready for shipping within two weeks tops... but that may change.

As for the skirts being functional I am still debating this... I might offer them not functional and then have a kit that would include the tubing and the scoop that goes into the body of the car... this would cost more than the skirts that are nonfunctional.

As for purchasing these side skirts they will be avalible only through me... when both side are completed I will post a reply that will have pics of them and the cost for the set and info for ordering them..

Right now I am trying to keep the cost for the set between $200-300. I already have over $200 into the production of these and I have barely started on them. Just to make the 1st set I will have an estimated $1000 into them... obviously they will cost less once all the molds are made. Once I figure out how much just I have in just one complete set then I will be able to figure an exact price for you guys.. As for shipping it will be through UPS unless I have to truck freight them... depends on size and weight of the box. I will have more info about shipping at a later time...

Thanks,
Neverstop

Everything looks great...as for buying it you can count me in (also known as 6th gen on celica.net). Although it'd take me a bit of time to get that kind of money, is that an issue?

could you detail the process of sculpting? seems like a pretty generic term. how are you actually going about this? I would be very interested in a write up.

thnx

To answer your question about sculpting.... Usally I would use streofoam or bent chicken wire to get a basic shape and then bondo and fiberglass for the details..

For this project I am actually using sculpting clay for the design.. Once it is all formed in the clay I will use a sealer on it and then make a fiberglass mold of it. Once I have a mold then I just use the mold to create the new pieces.

Once I have the mold I can make these at any time... I am only really planning on making about 10 sets though... will make more if there is enuf demand for it but not sure how many people that say they want them will acutally pick them up.

Also I had hoped to have the drivers side done today but it snowed over the weekend and was too cold for me to work on it so I hope to have it done within this week.

Thanks

I just now found this website recently and I was looking at the forums and found this. I was about to get a body kit for my car and I really like your ideas. Have you started selling them yet or are you already sold out? Also, will it work with the coupe model or will it only work with the liftback? Thanks.

Sounds great. Going off the pre-production sketches, I think I'd like to get in on this too. I'll try to keep up with the posts to see how they're coming along.
