So... ive gone through a ridiculous amount of cars over the past year, through not liking them, stuff breaking (NEVER buy a speed3 EVER!) and other motorists apparently not liking my vehicle and wanting to total it
im currently rockin a charger to drive 92 miles round trip to and from work each day, and the hemi bull**** is killin me with gas. so... i stumbled upon a descent 09 lancer gts - fully loaded in "wicked white" - 10yr 100k warranty too, with 0% apr and 1500 cash back (cancels out the nav upgrade package) this is not a ralliart or evo, but it does have the 2.4 168hp 167lb/ft engine - should get ME about 30mpg with my grandma commuting driving yes i still have the celica, and yes it is/has been undergoing surgery the past while and will be on the road again *hopefully* by summer 2010 so what is everyone's take on the lancer? i like it, which is what matters, but curious about any extra insight anyone may be able to offer (are they gay/girly cars, some maintenance issue i need to worry about, cheap stuff breaking on it, or are they cool cars)

speed 3's have issues with some of their motor mounts stripping out of the trans / cracking the trans housing and such.
after my 3rd mount & 2nd trans - in addition to losing some fins on the turbo, it lemoned. they are awesome cars if you get a good one, but a couple people along with myself have had nothing but headaches with ours, only one out of 5 local people has had 0 issues, the rest of us had the same mount issue and me and another had turbo failures. but all in all.. slap an intake and an exhaust on it, and you're at the 300hp mark, add intercooler and boost controller and your up another 30+hp for a total (touring addition) of ~25k - cant really beat that with all the storage and seating capacity. -------------------- you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!

Direct quote from the two girls (from Arkansas) on Bullrun when they saw the Lancer, first thing that came out of their mouths...
"That's going to break." LOL No seriously, I rented one before, an 03, and it was fun (an upgrade from the 95 Civic was I was sporting at the time). But are you going to miss people rolling up to you and asking, "That thing got a hemi?" -------------------- ![]() 2002 SC430 (WC) - 19" SSR Comp-H, Daizen swaybars, Sparco Demons, JDM Soarer conversion, carbon fiber spoiler, Injen intake, front strut bar, drilled/slotted Brembo rotors 1997 Celica ST (DD) - 17" ADR, ViS Zyclone CF hood, ViS CF hatch, K&N intake, Invader body kit |

lmao evo's get the that thing going to break comments, i highly doubt someone rolls up in an NA lancer to a bullrun haha - and besides, dsm's only last as long as their drivers let them...
im pretty sure im gonna go through with it, have a descent little list of aftermarket parts to add to it (lights all around, mild cat back and intake, tint) other than that its got everything - just a matter of how bad this credit crunch is gonna hurt my apr for going with a new car =/ and the hemi is nice for ego's and all and simple around town driving, but to drive the car everyday... totally takes away from the niceness of it when you fill it up 3 times a week when i used to be able to go a full week and a half on less gas lol -------------------- you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!

I like the new look, something different. I'd take it if i had the money. It's a DD not a weekend warrior so not to much to worry about.

They don't seem bad, but IMO as a mechanic you'll probably have just as much time in the shop as you did with the Speed3.
I think you just had some bad luck with the speed3, I have a couple friends with them and they haven't had an issue yet. Congrats on the new car though, the new lancers do look good -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

first tank of gas, mostly highway, but about 30% around town stop n go too - averaged 31mpg with it
i love it so far. highly recommend to anyone looking for something comparable to a 4dr cobalt, civic, mazda 3 or any other cars in that class got one loaded with all the packages available except the projector headlights (1,100 for headlights and auto wipers...) and it hands down beats any other deal i could find. got it out the door for 19,200 - with tax 20,352 - 0% financed for 60 months (340 a month payments) gonna keep the charger for a bit, is a VERY good car for long road trips (comfort wise, not economical) but i love the lancer so far, and cannot see anything major popping up -------------------- you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!
