So last week I decided to switch the lugs on my rims, seeing that they were a list rusty, and while I was I doing this, I noticed that my brake lights were out of sync/out of line...
Considering I'm never behind my car when it's being driven, I guess this makes sense to not notice this. It may help if I show some pictures of what I'm trying to describe: 1). Here's a representation of what my car's taillights look like when the headlights are on in the front ![]() 2). Here's what they look when I have my brake lights on ![]() With that said, this is probably an easy solution to fix, but I wanted to make sure that there weren't any major do's/don't's to wiring the brake lights/taillights, such as complications with the housings or the resistors/inhibitors. I've scrolled through some of the Celica pics here on 6Gs and I haven't found a good representation of what the taillights should look like when the brakes are on, so I've put together some more pictures of possible brake light options. Could you guys point me in the right direction as to how I should fix this problem, as well as how they should look like? A). All Lights (I'd pick this one if it's possible) ![]() B). Outer Lights ![]() C). Inner Lights ![]() Soon, I plan on switching out the bulbs with LEDs, like these: http://www.eautoworks.com/product-Led-33240.htm and eventually some JDM housings, but in the meantime, I'd like to fix this little brake light issue. Thanks in advance, -Miles This post has been edited by Celiquick: Mar 21, 2009 - 9:18 PM -------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Honestly, I'm not gonna lie, I have a similar problem with my brakes/tails. The first problem I have is that one of my tails is out. I got pulled over for it. Got a warning. Annoying as hell. The problem I had is that I had recently, maybe a week or two before, replaced the bulb. I'm thinking that might be a loose wire. The other problem I have is my brake lights alternate when I apply the pedal. One time the left will activate then the right.... never both at once. I have no idea what would cause this. Obviously the bulbs are fine. I'm thinking loose wires.

As with all Electrical problems check your ground wire 1st and 2nd and 3rd.
My tail light would wink in rotation (Break, indicator, break, indicator) because of a rusted ground wire. My Amp tried to get it's earth through my Head unit beacause of a bad Earth..... ![]() So the best advice is CHECK YOUR GROUND WIRES.... -------------------- WWSideWinder - 1996 - 3S-FE - Auckland New Zealand

I don't really get what you are talking about in your pictures. Could you get some real pictures of what you are talking about? Because it sounds to me like the second element in a couple of your bulbs have simply burned out. It would be a $5 fix.

I'll also chime in with the bulb suggestion. Keep in mind the bulbs have two elements, so while they may light up under one condition, they don't under another.

^ thats what I thought for example, bulbs have two filaments like ours. when driving reg. it has a dim light on both sides, keep in mind there are 2 bulbs on each side. if 1 bulb filament (for braking) is burnt out and when you brake it won't light up. To me your just on with the headlights looks normal, when you brake it doesn't. I think you need to replace the bulb with the bad filaments on both sides. Thats what it looks like - looks like an easy fix, pull out both your taillights and compare the good bulbs with the bad bulbs. 1 filament is for parking/driving and the other is for braking. You will need to replace the left outer and the right inner bulbs.
