so i bought a high output alt off a guy on here, oh about 4 months ago i'd say. And its been working fine, with my old and new engine.
But i was driving down the road and started to smell this horrible, kind of like plastic smell, and when i came to a stop i could see smoke coming out of my hood (about 50 yards from my house) so i risked it and drove to my house, my car was soon filled with horrible smoke, got out and popped the hood, and the alt was smoking like crazyy! and you can kind of see the windings inside are all burnt frown.gif
Its a mechman alt. and im wondering why it may have done it, and do you think it can be fixed?
I waiting for the car to cool down, and started it back up, its still pushing out 14.6V, so its still good in that aspect, im just afraid of it catching on fire! lol
I did leave something on in my car the night before and it killed my back battery (kinetik) 9.3V, but i jumped it and left my car running for a while, drove it 30+ miles and everything was fine, held back to a 12.7V charge. Do you think maybe this had something to do with the alt. I'm not sure how they work really. Thanks!
well tell me what you think, should i send it in to get fixed? like do you think they could do anything? thanks in advance!
(also all of my wiring is 1/0 gauge all relatively new, maybe 6 months, and all solid grounds and powers, 2 batteries)

I've spilt my heart into this car :) And I don't ever plan to stop
