I know doing this on a 7a-fe is not really going to do much, but until I decide what kind of swap I want to do, I was wondering if anyone knows if it would be possible to make/mod a corvette style ram air intake? On the 96+ models we have fog lights, and if we don't have them installed...well why not make some use for those spots?

In case anybody's wondering, I think this is aftermarket:

But that's what I'm talking about.

Only reason I ask is because I saw a corvette with these at an audio shop recently, and my drop-in k&n intake seems to suffer from the heat a hot engine produces - despite the heat shield.

I mean the difference in power with a cold engine and a warm engine is indescribable. The car jumps forward out of second if you floor it when it's cold, or accelerates quickly if you step on it gently. With a warm engine, you only get the quick acceleration no matter what you do, there's no jump or g-force of any kind generated.

Also, I know a cold engine is better for horsepower, but is the differnce on a 7a-fe with iridium plugs/ngk wires and a k&n intake really that different?

celica's come stock with a slightly restricted Cold Air Intake just infront of the fender. the difference between this system which would be custom and probably cost u a few hundred might see 2-3 hp gain laugh.gif

I second the weapon-R secret weapon ram air intake.
It comes with everything you'll need to do what you want.

On a side note my uncle who used to work on racing porches told me he once built one of his buddies,
who wanted to drag his vet, something like what you want. (I think it was a late 80's-early 90's)

He went to home depot, bought piping along with a splitter and built the guy a dual ram intake straight into the headlights which were removed.

The filter (I have my questions about this) was made from pantyhose,
soaked overnight in vinegar, and mounted over the front of the ram intake.

The entire thing cost $18.

I don't remember exactly because this was a long time ago but,

I think he said the cars time dropped by something like half a second in the 1/4 and added close to 10mph on his trap speed.
