I didnt wanna pay $60 per fender and some guy to molest and touch my car. so i sat down with the die grinder, welding mask, and a beach towel and started cutting my fenders.
My weapon ![]() The leftovers ![]() Passenger side ![]() ![]() ![]() Driver's side ![]() ![]() ![]() 10mins each fender. Procedure: -Lift rear end -Take off wheels -Scrape inside fender lip to get rid of the dirt and what evers behind there -Lightly graze the fender lip with the die grinder to make a guide line -Cut deeper in the line (I made 6 passes to make sure i had a good clean cut) -When satisfied with the clearance put wheels back on and call it a day. Used the welder helmet so i dont burn myself cuz those sparks get really really hot. Then I used a wood block and a hammer to lightly roll the fresh cut area so it looks cleaner and to protect from anyone getting cut. Gonna sand and touch up paint the area later whenever i feel like working on the car again ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by 808celica: Oct 17, 2009 - 7:58 PM -------------------- I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island

Gonna sand and touch up paint the area later whenever i feel like working on the car again ![]() ![]() At first I thought this was going to be a question of which to go. But apparently not. ![]() Yes, you need to grind down that edge. I have heard of people running flushed up wheels slicing their sidewall. Hence, why most people choose to just roll the fender. I have heard of people complaining that cutting the lip weakened the fender. Since it did not have the arch to support the fender it can collapse easier. (This is more of a drifting issue though.) Good job on the cut though. Looks pretty clean. -------------------- |

Yea this would be the incorrect way to go about that. You should have gotten a fender roller and a heat gun and done it the proper way. Cutting is an extreme resort to this needed solution. But either way you got the job done and if you are happy with it thats awesome
![]() I would suggest getting some black paint on that cut edge though to cover up any bare metal left over now MOAR LOW! |

lolz yeah i know. rolling is the best and most absolute way to make more clearance...... i just didnt feel like having someone else molesting my car. I will get some paint in there

He just stood by and gave me some pointers but I did all the work myself. Or buy a roller yourself and charge people $40 or $50 to roll them while you stand by and give pointers. -------------------- |

yup what dan said. But i was gonna ask if your fenders lost its rigidity and I guess you did since you said it got flimsy. If a fender roller was used, your fenders would still be strong. But anyways, why did you have to cut it, you werent rubbing?

The leftovers ![]() OMG!! I couldn't bring myself to do that to my car, plus cutting anything like that on and car in new england leads to bad bad things I don't even want to imagine. I couldn't get a fender roller so I ended up buying a cheap heat gun and making Dustin ghetto roll my fenders because I couldn't even bear the thought of swinging a hammer near my car, at least if it was Dustin that messed it up I could just blame it on him. ![]() Did that completely solve you're rubbing issues? Mine was pretty bad before modifying the fenders, now its ok for me but I can't have any passengers in the car or it still rubs sometimes. -------------------- |

You're crazy...but don't 215's look too skinny on an 18" rim? I'm running those and they're alright for 17's. I would imagine they're too skinny for how flush you want your rims to sit.
