I recently got my distributor replaced, and I know that there can't be any reason why that would make my speakers stop working, because they were playing when I drove away from the mechanic. I went home and turned the car off, and went to my room for a bit to put more songs on my mp3 player to play in my car. Went out to my car, turned it on, turned on my mp3 player, had it plugged it, no sound. I am sooooo ****ing pissed off, like the equalizer shows that it's playing, but there is absolutely no sound. I tried fooling with the wires in the back, I tried disconnecting the negative from the battery. It can't be the speakers, they're not even two years old. What else could be the problem?

Turn the volume up?
Check the fuses under the dash? Maybe you blew one. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

^^^What he said. Maybe a fuse shorted when you shut off the car. That would be my first bet!

If you have the 6 speaker system, your system has an amp under the center console just forward of the shifter. I don't know if there is a fuse that goes to the amp or not, so it could be a fuse or your amp could be bad, that's if you have the 6 speaker system of course

assuming you have stock sound system, there is a radio fuse in the inside panel, and there is an "x" fuse in your engine bay fuse panel. Check those two. but you wouldnt have to check these fuses if you saw power going to your player. in the first place if you have stock setup how did you blow it? unless you have a stock player running high wattage speakers, or your aftermarket player just broke. These run only built in amps. unless you have mute settings or another amp running that has problems.

Stock sound system like original speakers? Cuz I don't have the original speakers, I sorta upgraded with 4 cheap Blaupunkt speakers, 90W each, though the tweeters are original. Plus I mean I have an aftermarket CD player too, but it's old as ****. I did just order a new one online, hopefully I'll get that soon, so rather than screwin' with the stock amp, I'll just hook up the new player. But it bothers the hell outta me, when I can't listen to music when I'm driving.
I just checked the radio fuse from the inside and that was fine, though because I heard something screaming across the field at 4:45am, not sure if it was a cow, but it freaked me out, and now I'll just check under the hood when it starts to get light outside. haha As for the amp blowing, I don't know how it happened, there is a set volume that I use, and don't go any higher unless a song that is playing is quieter than others. And for the head unit itself, it does not have a mute button, well it does but it just lowers the volume. But I turned the volume all the way up, still nothing. .....Going back in time like 3 months ago, my rear left(drivers side) speaker stopped working, and it wasn't the speaker itself, cuz I hooked up the speaker to the right side, and it played just fine. What would cause that to go out? It's currently disconnected with electrical tape around the wires, cuz I cut the plug off, thinking it was the plug itself. |

no matter what stereo you get you HAVE to go through that amp to get sound out of your speakers, that's just the way the car is wired, that is of course unless you run new wires to all the speakers. it could still be the stereo, do you have the the stereo attached to the wiring via auxiliary plugs?

No the only AUX port I was using was the port on the front for my mp3 player. Other than that all the wires were connected to the original wiring harness. If my new head unit does not work, then I know it's the amp.

idk if you mentioned this or not, but do you get sound from radio stations?
Also can you get a picture of how the stereo is wired to the original harness? This post has been edited by barterj: Nov 3, 2009 - 2:20 PM |

Radio Not Working The blue was for RMS or something when I had woofers in the back, but I still don't know what the orange was for. This post has been edited by 6GenCircleLghts: Nov 3, 2009 - 3:34 PM |

Ok, looks like fun! So, that blue wire that is no longer attached to your stereo is I believe why you don't have sound, that's an amp signal wire, that needs to hook up to the amp signal wire which i believe should also be blue, the blue wire from the stereo tells the amp to turn on. So if the amp doesn't turn on then your not going to get sound. When I put subs in my i hooked the amp signal wire to the sub amp bit not back to the system amp and it resulted is no sound. when you get the new stereo, the easiest thing to do would be to get the harness adapter above, you can get it from crutchfield.com, bestbuy should have it, if there are any car audio stores in your area they should definatley be able to get it for you. I would post a picture of how I wired my stereo but my Celica is currently at home 3 hours away

thats great, i think its weird that you stereo hooks up differently though, when i got a new stereo i was told by 2 car audio shops that i had to have a head unit that was compatible with the wiring adapter above. what did you get for a head unit and how does it sound?
