In some of my car pictures, you see a Dakota. That Dakota belongs to my best friend Mike.

After school yesterday, we were going to my friend's house named Joe. He is the leader of our car club.

We pulled up to the stop light making a left turn. There is 2 lanes to turn left. We were in the right one, so he had to get around the corner and speed up to get around the cars in the left lane, because the right lane turns off.

While we were stopped at the red light, we got onto our 2way radio. We were chatting it up waiting for the red light to turn green. I told him, "Hey, you're probably faster than me now that I have all this weight in my car" (I was carrying 3 15s for my friend, it weighed my car down a lot). And we both laughed at the light turned green. He went to the center of the intersection, and pressed the gas hard before fully straightening out. He lost control, over corrected and flew into the side walk, hit a tree all the way down the right side of his car which spun him into a concrete wall, still having enough momentum to make the truck fully lift off the ground and come to a complete stop in the middle of the sidewalk.

When he hit the tree, his side mirror flew off into his window and shattered on his face. He is a little cut up, but okay.

He has only had his license for 2 weeks. He has spent over $3,000 in modifications to the truck.

It has been all I can think about since then. I've seen many accidents happen right before me, but none like this. He is my best friend, he babies his truck, and I talked to him 2 seconds before it happened.

The truck is totaled. Luckily, no students were walking on the sidewalk where the accident took place. This could have been a lot worse. I'm glad we only lost the truck. He didn't swerve into me (behind him) or the car to his left, he controlled it enough to not injure anyone else.

Please keep him in your prayers. Very hard lesson learned. I've never been driving safer in my life.

That right there is what caused the accident. Glad nobody else got hurt.

Sorry to hear it turned out like that but like you said.. lesson learned. There is no substitute for experience. 11th commandment says: "Thou shalt not raceth on the street with thy own's car and car of a friend who has 3 weeks of experience driving a car".

Street racing is no laughing matter and many people get hurt because they have no experience controlling cars in rapid acceleration or stopping.

I wont say that I don't race on streets because then I would be lying but every time I do... hands on the steering wheel, check seat belt, look for cops, look for other cars, nod to other driver and look straight. Skip ahead head straight hands on wheel and back to normal speed. Only then I will even begin considering whether I won or did not win.

In a bad kind of way your friend paid heavily and assuming that tow truck was there it will get reported to police. Assuming that he will also pay trice because he just got his license and is under 26. His insurance rates will be like a bajillion even on parent's policy. At least he is ok.

Make sure he goes to the doctor and gets a full physical or else he will end up like me... whiplashed for the rest of his life.

I know he's your friend and all...but this is exactly why you don't do this type of stuff. Sucks for him, but it's his own fault.

Yes, I know. We ****ed up.

But we don't street race. Our group goes down to the track every few months to get the racing out of our system to that we'd keep it off the streets.

And I do agree with all of you, it was completely our faults. And like I said, lesson learned. It was just surprising to me how fast it happened. I pulled over to the side of the road and just sat in my car for a while. I was completely shocked. I didn't believe it, to be honest. I was waiting to wake up.

yup. this is exactly the reason that insurance rates ARE already so high for young drivers, because young kids do stupid stuff like this, inexperienced with the road all together. He is lucky he only hurt himself, and did not get other innocent people involved in his carelessness. An accident- yes, avoidable? 100% it was. Hope he is OK, but hope he learned his lesson more.

truth hurts, sorry. kindasad.gif

I guess I can sum this all up by saying "Stupid is as Stupid does", and yes, I just quoted Forrest Gump. We are glad nobody is hurt, which moves into breaking your balls so you or your peers do not repeat this again. Consider this, Adults lecturing the youth so that they are not doomed to repeat the same mistake, because the result could have been worse and what you guys did was all out dumb. I am not going to be around the bush, just flat out. It was stupid.

Just learn from it and don't do it again (which I am sure you will not).

If your Celi was involved, it'd be different. Good thing is, he only injured his own car and himself, and not anyone else. Like Faust said, let it be a lesson to you.

I recall reading an article a few years back. Something about rear wheel drive general motor cars having to beef up their rear right suspension because of how engine twists the chassis and it keeps buckling in on itself. I assume that his spin out was something similar to that?

But then I look at the damage and forgive my ignorance but both his wheels on the right hand side are twisted in such a way as if he was going 80 with both his left wheels up on a curb and decided to turn left causing them to basically fold in on themselves. And then it looks like he really did hit his front right wheel... but why is his left hand side messed up? Looking at the road in the image it looks like its a 2 lane one way only road with trees as median and some elevated mound...

So... he is in right lane.. makes a turn and cuts at the same time, spins out and hits some of those trees then overcompensates and hits something on the right hand side and comes to a hault? Then why is his right hand side so messed up? It looks like someone t-boned him considering that both his doors and middle cross member are bowed in.

But then again I am not a crash science analyst but having seen many accidents story looks like its missing something.

He is young and stupid. Live and learn. Stuff like this happens to a lot of people. It's part of growing up and maturing. smile.gif Anyway, $3K in car modifications is like $300 in regular money, so not much was lost. tongue.gif Hopefully he learned from this one. Glad nobody was hurt.

I'm with random stranger about the breaking balls stage. If it'd have been me in your spot, I probably would have transferred over to breaking his already. Like "Smooth one ace. Now if you woulda hit my car, that mirror that perforated your face woulda been the least of your problems"

He got sideways, over corrected, went over the curb, scratching the entire right left car with the tree (also knocking off his mirror) then went over the sidewalk into the concrete wall. The concrete wall had things that stuck out. One of those things that stuck out caught his front rim, making the truck lift off the ground and land the way that it did.

I have pictures of the accident scene (day after) if you want me to to post them, I will.
