Hey, just fixed my wheel bearing and today finally got the car back registered was driving around and I notice a noise getting louder and louder and the faster you go the worse it got, so my instint was it was the axel nut or something that I did when doing the wheel bearing, but I pulled into a mechanic and he told me its either the driveshaft or the gearbox, he said the driveshaft may of seized but he will need a better look to see what the problem is.
So how can I tell what the problem is, it basically just feels like the wheel is not bolted on properly and is moving, I want to know as I don't want to order a driveshaft and find out its the gearbox. This post has been edited by Euphoria: Dec 1, 2009 - 12:48 AM |

Also forgot to say, It still makes this noise in neutral, accelerating and de-accelerating.

Well if it makes the noise while your in "neutral" then it must be something other than the axle nut or wheel bearing cause the wheels are not moving in neutral. So it has to be something rotating while the car is not moving aye? I had the same noise with my 94 GT the sound was coming from my driver's side wheel and turned out to be a bad bearing. It was loose and had a lot of play when I jacked the car up and moved it around myself. I only heard the noise when my car was driving and turning obviously. The wheel bearings use the "Press" method to get in on nice and tight. Perhaps if its that you can see if you still have play action going on there on the wheel you had the bearing replaced.

My first thought was I ruined something with the bearing, but the mechanic seemed certain it wasn't anything to do with the bearing.
