I can get one of these at a reasonable price. Does anyone already have this kit installed? Worth doing?

Cheers

I went the 7th gen route. I only paid about $30 USD shipped and I love it. I can't really say if the TRD kit is worth it since it's so dang expensive.

I had both and all I can say was my old 7th gen short shifter with a greddy counter-weight knob was alot better then the TRD shifter I have plus the 7th gen shifter was perfect length with my arm 90 degree angle. I paid $200 shipped for a discontinued new trd quick shift kit came with the trd knob also. If u use the stock knob on the 7th gen short shifter the shifting will be too stiff imo with the greddy knob it gives u faster throws and eliminates the stiffness u get from the short shifter they're both better then the stock shifter though lol.

the TRD shifter looks like a stock shifter to me. I like the 7th gen ones better. TRD curves like a stock one does, it's kinda strange... I couldn't see a real gain from using it.

The TRD isn't a short shifter, it's a "quick" shifter. It shortens throw distance a bit, angles toward the steering wheel, and is about same as stock length (with the TRD knob it's longer). The whole idea is it's a shorter actual throw, and it is close to the steering wheel to keep both hands on the wheel for racing purposes. IMO a "short throw" is for lazy guys who drive with 1 hand on the wheel and rest the other on their console.

For the OP, I had a TRD quickshifter in my 94 GT and LOVED it. Shorter throw, close position to the wheel, etc, was definitely worth the $100 I bought mine for. To me the 7th gen and other short shifters make it look like your hand has to be way down in the console to shift.

OK, thanks to everyone for their posts, but this one in particular was very helpful. I'm going to go for it smile.gif

I just bought and installed one, hes in NZ so our ones (Japanese TRD) aren't dicsountinued

Just some info from the TRD website
Nimble shifting for a rhythmical driving experience
■ The shortened shift stroke produced by changing the shift lever ratio provides a sensational feel with nimble, reliable shifting.
■ Classic design born from our racing car development experience.
■ Through use of a pedestal lever assembly for the FF and MR models and metal bushings to join to the body, the shift lever provides a direct, sensational feel.
■The main lever unit and select bar are fastened together using a serrated press fitting, ensuring sufficient reliability.
(We do not perform welding work which could raise issues with respect to durability.)

for some reason, it doesn't show up in the celica part list you have to go through parts, then driving parts/quickshifter
TRD parts
quickshifter
part number: 33530-ST000 looking around NZ$450 (you get the shifter set and TRD gear knob)

what the difference with PTR04-20940-04? this cost about $120 @ 1sttoyotaparts

Is the RHD part angled towards the driver? Because it would then angle towards the passenger in a LHD car lol

ours is Celica ST20# 33530-ST000, just depends on the japanese Yen vs NZ dollar that was frieght free aswell, but yea it is expensive

mines angled to the left (on a RHD celica) looks like it has been designed that way, so you dont get to close to the handbrake.
