one of my mates is thinking of installing a set of kyb struts and springs onto his gen 6 , was wondering whats the ride like and the handling???? his prority is to have a comfortable ride. Also do the kyb's installtion similar to the koni's in that the car must have the standard strut to weld onto???any advice appreciated as he wants to sort his suspension out asap cause his rear dampers are making a really bad clunking noise

I have the KYB GR-2s on my car with Eibach Sportline springs, and the ride quality is pretty nice. The installation is much easier than with the Konis too, because the back is an entire replacement strut rather than just a cartridge.

Yep. It's really pretty easy, as long as the bolt on the rear that connects the sway bar to the car isn't rusted to the point that it takes half an hour to get it unbolted. ![]() -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

For the FRT's you're going to have do minor work to them. You're going to have to drain out oil that's in the housing, clean out the existing houseing in the FRT and replace it with the KYB Cartridge. |

Nope, stock springs aren't required. I have Eibach Sportlines installed with my KYBs. ![]() -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Hey coom, do you have any clunking noises coming from the rear? Go over speed bumps and it feels like the rear end is gonna fall off?

I just, a few days ago had the KYB GR2 struts put on the rear with the Eiback ProKit springs, not the Sportlines. Since my 99 already had the upgraded sports suspension, the front do not have replaceable cartridges. So what TireRack.com sells or should I say what KYB recommends does not fit and won't work - and to top it off they don't make anything that does work. Any Toyota dealer can sell you new front struts, but they will cost about $160 each. Right now my car feels very tight except I have that "clunking" in the front. Since the stock struts are higher the the Springs, I'm assuming I'll need a spacer/damper to hold them in place - right now they are spinning when I turn the wheel. Feels great though except for the nasty noise.
Any suggestions - I have TireRack, the installer and Eibach tech folks all talking to come up w/ a solution. Help me if you can! |

if the springs are moving i would say that the top strut mounts are not on right, the strut mount has OUT marked on it and that should face towards the outside off the car i think if not u get the horrible cluncking, ether that or ur strut mounts are shot..

Yep - worked like a charm - glad this place exists or auto shops all over the world may actually have to know this stuff - thanks all.
We took the entire strut / spring out aligned the out on the knuckle bracket and put em back in - no clunking noise! |
