Anyone know this guy or seen his car.. ?

Posted on gt4oc

Hello all, I'm from Long Island, NY. I've been owning my GT-4 for 2 years now. It was imported from Italy. I bought the car when I was stationed in Italy with the US army for 4 years. I bought the car in my last year there before returning home. I have to say it was kind of difficult getting her here to the states. Getting registration for this car was quite time consuming and some money was needed. Guess since I was in the army it was a little easier to import her here. Although I had to buy a USDM rear license plate bezel so I could properly mount a New York plate in the back. Also had to swap in a USDM steering wheel with SRS, since the original 3 spoke steering wheel was a non-SRS. She's a 94 Gt-4 with now 174k miles. She's pretty much stock except for the rims and some mild mods under the bonnet. Since the GT-4 is pretty much illegal here in the states I get a lot of questions about it and how I got it here. I'm rather happy it's LHD though since here and Italy drive LHD. Anyways enough about me here is some pictures recently of my baby. Enjoy.

Hey guys, Thanks for all the faff love! Yeah importing her here to New York was fairly difficult. Before returning home a little over a year ago. I left the car behind at a storage facility which also exports cars. I didn't see my car for months only took some pictures of it before I left home. I had used my wife's USDM Celica ST (AT200) while I waited for my ST205 to come home.

First I had to have the Italian issued title sent via air mail here to my home. It took over 1 month to wait for that. After finally getting it in the mail I had to go to the DMV and get special paper work for the car. I actually had a new temp NY title made a few months before I even got the car here. The title was for a kit car. After having the new NYS kit car title issued I had it faxed over to the exportation depot and customs there. Then after everything was finally finalized the car began it's long voyage from it's home land to the USA. It took 2 months to get to to customs here in the states. Then an additional 1 1/2 to have the car checked and inspected and emissions check too. Once finally cleared I had the car shipped from Georgia up to NY which took 8 days. Once she arrived at my house she sat in my garage safe for another 1 months until I was able to get her inspected here in NY and after she passed she was finally issued a official passenger car title. After that she was on the road and it was amazing driving her around here at home. I was use to driving here around back in Italy for over a year. It felt great having her home. It's like adopting a child from another country. I was so happy. Yes a lot of people ask me all the time about how I got a GT-4 here. It cost me altogether $5,000 to get her here and registered and inspected cleared for public road use. It's great because its LHD not RHD. She's fast love the AWD power here. Sadly though the only thing I worry about is when if something needs to be serviced it might be hard to replace some of the parts on this 3s-gte engine seeing that this engine was not released after 1994 for the 6th gen Celicas.

Yeah, the 4 piston fixed calipers on the GT-Four/Supra are mounted on the rear of the spindle, whereas these look like 2 piston floating calipers and are mounted on the front. Also the stilts for the spoiler are definitely not OE, the seats are leather (AFAIK they were cloth only on the GT-Four), and is it just me or does the paint on the hood and front bumper not match the fenders? It seems to ride a bit high too, at least compared to the GT-Four sitting in my driveway.

I don't want to call you out if it really is a GT-Four, but these inconsistencies just don't add up to me. If you want to dress up a GT or ST as a GT-Four that's fine by me, but claiming it is one goes to far in my books.

... i know its off topic, but does anyone know where to get those mudflaps?!?!?!? kindasad.gif

anyway, to add to the discussion, it is a 94 with jdm tails? ... iirc it didnt come til later years, and either way, jdm tails shouldnt pass inspection for US as im pretty sure it lacks the rear sidemarkers, and they should have swapped usdm tails... right?

edit: anyway im not callin the guy out.... i dont care either way. .... all i wanna know is about the mudflaps frankly. wink.gif

It's also missing the GT-FOUR badge on the rear. The angle of the first pic could explain for the gas tank not being visible...but yeah, definitely something weird going on here.

just add info for you OnAllFours there was leather in GT4's as standard (I know of a couple here in NZ with them), and also I agree with your last statement.

I'm not trying to sound mean just honest.

To me it looks like an ST or GT uncerneath all the GT4 bits.

Hasnt got the the 4 pot calipers
GT4 badge missing from the boot
Should have GT4 embossed into the high risers
Cant seem to see the 68L GT4 fuel tank which is usually quite visable!

And usually its quite rare to see a GT4 with a sunroof, espesially to see one in the US.

If it is a GT4 then these few pointers don't add up.

Not to mention that looks like your average ST202/ST204 tail pipe.

ALL GT-Four's are badged (By factory) at the back either "GT-Four (Toyota Emblem) Celica", OR in some Countries "Toyota Celica (Toyota Emblem) GT-Four."

The only thing that should be amazing is the fact the owner thinks he has the real deal for the past 2 years and doesn't even know!!!!!!!!

Since we figure it's just a look-a-like (a very nicely done look-a-like, could fool most people) the 1998-99 GT4 spoiler emblem isn't embossed, it has stickers just like your SS-III.

As for the sun roof, I don't know about the rest of the world but in Japan 50% of SS-I and GT4 have sunroof. They're only rare on the SS-II and SS-III.

I say get the VIN number and we can settle this. Also, blue pine tree air fresheners were not standard equipment on the GT-4's biggrin.gif

But seriously, yes, the brakes look like my GT brakes.

He posted this on GT4OC

Sweet yeah I live all the way off exit 66 on the LIE. Then head all the way north to 25A to a town called Rocky Point. There was supposed to be a 6th gen meeting in NJ but the weather was not good. I would love to see your Alltrac. Nice too see some one close to home. I also have a apartment out near Battery Park. Have you heard of "Gateway Plaza" ??? Right across from the former WTC. Sometimes I drive my car out there for the weekend and leave it there in the parking garage. I try not to do that to much though cause the parking garage is way to much money.

I found one more inconsistency, Passenger air bags weren't available in 1994, atleast not in Japan.

That is definitely Tech-Nic's car. He has a very similar one for his wife.
