Ive got a redtop beams, in a 98 Celica.. A few weeks ago the engine check light came on, the car went into safe mode, wouldnt rev past 3k revs etc.
I got a diagnostics check done and the fault was "mass air flow". We checked the temperature readings and the mass air reading. If we revved the car the temperature went up but the mass air did not move..So natural presumption was the air flow meter was shot..I changed it there yesterday for a new unit and the problem still persists. I got the engine light cleared but almost immediately it comes back on again.. My thinking now is the wiring between the AFM and the ECU is damaged..?? Has anyone experienced a similar problem before? or does anybody have other suggestions? All help is greatly appreciated ![]() |

Hi there fellow Irish Beams owner here.
Did you replace the MAF with another Beams MAF or another Toyota/Lexus one? They are sensitive to changes in the intake system. For example Redtop beams part no 22204-20010 and Blacktop beams part no 22204-21010. If that doesn't help maybe just check for leaks in the intake area. I hope this helps.
