Got a chance to look at it. The body is pretty dent free but horrible rust wise. Would need new fenders, complete new quarter sections, roof, whole new floor pan, and the interior would need a lot of lovin' too, and not to mention, the previous owner put a single exhaust on it -____- that would get changed too. We're going to take it (being that it is free), and figure out what we want to do with it. Either keep all the goodies off of it and scrap the rest or keep it and make it a really long restoration project. It literally just needs body and interior work and she'd be all set for paint, and look as good as new, but those body panels are expensive. $1500 shipped for both quarter panels, $700 shipped for the interior floor, whatever a roof will cost, new windows, and other stuff.

I love it when the oil sparkles...

Bad headgasket, water pump, & spun bearing.
Going to have the crank and head machined and wife is going to rebuild it to make it brandy new.

**** that ****, cut and weld with whatever sheet metal you can get cheaply from junk yards. Especially on the floor pans, buying pre-made floor pans is a rip off. Same with most of the interior, can do most of it yourself with plain material and cut to fit. It's not like you're restoring it to sell at Mecum or Barrett Jackson for big money. Even if you were, with enough skill you can meet or exceed OEM anyway. Check local ads and yards for a 70-72 Skylark. Could get a panels or even a whole car for under $1,500...

^ some of it lives on in my car now too.... right hand side window and 8-speaker door panel, left hand door speaker grills, mids and tweeters, and heated seat. many other parts were removed and are probably now installed on other cars which leads me to this good, yet somewhat awkward feeling of knowing how bits and pieces were removed to benefit other 6th gens.

anyway, today I decided i would post a couple of pictures of my drive last week to my hometown to attend a wedding and decided to replacing the wheel bearings and front driveshaft, as well as the thermostat, brake pads, and oil change. my cousin and i both worked on the rear bearings at his shop which went really smooth and did the front at home. so after pressing out the front bearing, i noticed that the new st185 bearings were too small! mad.gif so i pressed the old bearing back in. and to add to the frustration, i was informed that the left and right front driveshafts are interchangeable seeing that they're the same lengths and have the same spline counts on both ends, but the spline tooth profile going into the tranny is different because it wouldn't go in (that's what she said.. lol) so i quickly put everything back the way they were before i let my inner rage get the better of me. i actually prayed that night hoping for my car to make the 1400 km journey home... and i'm glad it did.

new (LH axle) vs. old (RH axle)

Nothing like tearing apart something to replace it, only to have to put it back in.
