Got the head off of the BEAMS. And finished extending the wire harness!

Pictures or it never happened. wink.gif How's it look in there? Are you going to replace your OCV filter? I never tore far enough into my spare BEAMS heads to get to it.

I'll get pictures up in my build thread later. Finishing up the harness today. Going to finish scraping all of the old gaskets away today if I can. The engine is going in this weekend.

In a very strange manner, unless I'm completely blind, I haven't found the OCV filter... The only thing that was in the VVTi galley was just the sensor itself....

The OCV filter is hidden inside the head. There's a piece that comes off of the top of the cams, it's inside that.

Ah, thanks! Never would have noticed it. I thought that was just a black washer of sorts.

Nope, it's the worst place for an OCV filter known to mankind. I haven't made it that far into my BEAMS yet. It's such a pain for a $3 part.

have knee surgery, and be done with it. Swap your celi to an auto tranny.

really, if you are having knee problems, the last thing u need is a crampy car. You need easy ingress and egress out of a vehicle. and auto transmission. you need a automatic echo. small, reliable, and old folks liked it because it was easy to get in and out.

I'd be afraid to have knee surgery. I know a lot of people that've had back, neck, and hip procedures only to end up worse than before the surgery. I'm only 5' 10" so the Celica isn't really that cramped for me. Main issue is having to operate the clutch without driving it like a jackass, that and not having the smoothest of rides. Getting in and out does hurt at times, but just while I'm doing it and I'm fine once in or out. Is it just me or does the Celica have an abnormally stiff clutch? The clutch in my brother's V6 Maxima is lighter, and so is the clutch in my uncle's 5S-FE MR2. This kind of befuddles me. Anyhow I'd kill myself if I had to drive an automatic Echo, you think I complain now. tongue.gif So far considerations include the Lexus SC400, Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Coupe, Honda Accord EX Coupe, and Toyota Solara SLE. Pulled groin muscle from work aside, today seemed better though.

Amongst exams, JDM Rain Guards arrived.... Only to have slight damage in post (from poor packaging, so unlikely EMS will cover), and the kicker is that I think they must be off the 7th gen, as they don't follow the lines of the car properly.

Can anybody confirm if the embossed Toyota stamp in the plastic should be at the top over the window, or the bottom near the door mirror?

And here's me thinking paying eBay premiums on items would make it less painful... Seller is jdm_used_parts. I would avoid purchasing from this seller for the mean time if possible - as far as I can currently tell the item was not the set pictured, was not in the condition described, were not packaged well enough and were damaged in transit. So far the seller has not been very helpful and has denied everything and has told me to take up the matter with my local post office.

Mine snapped with the wheel on one time. Magically 2 studs had fallen off (possibly my fault...possibly not), and being as they weren't all diagonal from each other too much pressure got on one and it snapped. I was driving down the road and next thing I know my wheel is wobbling, scared the piss outta me. Its an easy change though. Just take the wheel off, move off the whole caliper assembly and rotate the stud hole you need to replace with the hole in the caliper shield. Knock old one out w/ screw driver and hammer. Take the new one and push it as far as you can by hand. Thennnn take a 1/2" washer and put it behind a lug nut and gently tighten it all the way down whilst keeping pressure on the back of the stud. Finally put everything back on and bam your done You pbly knew all that but I wanted to show off my e-peen laugh.gif

You dun goofed. No but really, those nuts on the water pump outlet neck are freaking stupid small and weak. The neck itself is some great quality dirty cast aluminum, but the nuts are ridiculously ****ty. You got a grab-it? Should be able to get it out in no time with one.

Today I washed my seats, carpet, and mats. They all for the most part all look brand spanking new almost 20 years later. Love it.

It's handy to read all that again.. I did try that when I replaced them but it was way too much effort tightening it, so I just used a rattle gun. So waiting till I get my hands on that again

Today I checked out my uncle's 2000 supercharged Miata. They're very nice cars. All I could do was sit in it and get a general feel for the car though, he has it torn down and is refurbishing the supercharger. The clutch reminded me of the Celica, firm and even throughout travel. The seats were very comfortable, getting in and out of it felt like it does with the Celica though. The amount of room for front passengers feels the same as what the Celica offers. Being 5' 10" I have plenty of headroom and legroom. High quality materials throughout the interior, reminded me of the Celica in that regard as well. To me it's almost like a RWD Celica convertible where they cut out the useless rear seat. tongue.gif I'm sold, and I haven't even driven one. Which I suppose it all depends on my knee, which has been doing better since the last incident. I have the feeling something like the Mustang would be out of the question, cable driven clutch on a V8... Oi... Besides I really don't want to have an exponential increase in fuel costs. At least the Miata is only a tad worse than the Celica, plus can always LS1 swap the Miata later. biggrin.gif I'll see how it goes here in the next month, and go from there. Having to wait for my brother to finish his Maxima anyway. I'm having to drive him around, he can repay the favour. tongue.gif

I just got reminded that I should probably get new radiator hoses.

Also, finished the wire harness. Still working on prepping the head and block to put it back together.
