Today I received a set of replacements hatch struts from Monroe. I called them last week and complained about the two sets I had blowing on me after a few months and they sent me this replacement set for free. We'll see how they work out this time.

If they fail you can always go for konis or KYB. I'd personally go for koni but its not the cheapest way.

Today I.....took a nice little cruise mostly highway with my 1MZ V6 and I wondered why Toyota didn't offer the V6 as an option on the 6th Gen. I mean we didn't get any of the 3S-GE/GTE motor options they could have thrown us a bone with the V6. At this time the Camry had the 5S as a base motor and the V6 as an option what gives? I'm not knocking the 5S, it is a very reliable motor. I just think a sportier trim option should have been available in the US kindasad.gif .

I've wondered the same myself. I do know the BEAMS and 3S-GTE were an issue of emissions though. The Camry didn't have a manual with the 1MZ until 1997 though. Maybe they just didn't think of it, or maybe they didn't think it'd sell for some reason, or maybe they didn't want to go through the trouble. The only ones that know for sure are the ones that oversaw the production.

America always get screwed on import cars. Hondas, Toyotas all that... We always get a weaker engine vs other areas.. But we do have v8s that are known for hauling butt other than that we get the shaft.

Blame Federal emissions and safety regulations. Honestly I rather have access to all of the muscle cars and most of the imports versus all of the imports and pretty much none of the muscle cars though.

Thanks, but unfortunately she does have some rust. I did a bit of editing in photoshop for some of the shots to put more of the focus on the car. It's mostly bad along the driver's side rocker panel especially but also a few other spots. For a 20 year old Canadian car though, it's surprisingly good. Unfortunately I have had no choice but to winter drive it since I've owned and I'm still in uni living with my parents so I'm not able to store it in a garage frown.gif The plan for this year is to fix all the rust for good, buy a winter beater though and store the car for the winter.

So Sydney has been hit with storms for the past week, essentially we have had the equivalent of a Category 2 Cyclone/Hurricane for around 3 days now.
Essentially everything is flooded, trees are down everywhere and the roads are messed up.
Last night I parked my car spare of the moment across the road from my girlfriends house, when I cam out this morning there was a tree directly across where I normally park.
During my 30km round trip to take my girlfriend to work, (which usually takes 12minuites to complete), we hit a few puddles that went over the door sills of my car.
My girlfriend filmed this, but isn't too good with Samsung phones lol, the last puddle in the video caused my AC to cut out and some of the electrics in my car stopped until I turned it off and on at the next lights.
Video of the drive.

My car died.

I was driving 3hrs up north past Whistler to go for a day hike when after 1 hour of driving I noticed my acceleration was slowing down, and I was hearing a slight whirring. I looked behind me to see a huge plume of smoke.

That was when all my lights came on and I lost power steering.

I pulled over and shut her down. I tried turning her back on a few minutes later and pushed on the gas to hear a low rumble, and lots of smoke from my engine.

I had checked the oil and topped it off the night before my drive since it'd been burning oil quite a bit on my long drives (I've been going to hikes on my day off, which require hour-long drives out of the city). So I checked the oil again, and it was completely empty.

My guess is that the oil leak in my turbo that I was informed of back in January when I had my transmission replaced had turned into a full blown hoover dam situation.

I had my car towed to a local garage and had to Grey Hound back home.

I got a call this morning saying that my cylinder 4 had seized, and the engine was probably toast, but they couldn't find a replacement.

I am sad.

I've only had my car 2 years. It's dead now at a garage 100km away from me. I'll probably get it towed to my house, which will be around $400. I'm torn whether I should buy another engine off eBay and install it, or just scrap it for parts.

My first car ever, the silver dragon, is no more. It was only a short time that I got to drive you, but you did what you did the best, drive.

I've got a week to figure out what to do with my dead car. Invest more money in to it than I paid for it, or go carless until I can purchase another GT-Four (Yes, I do want to get another one).

frown.gif

RIP for now sweet prince. 04.20.2015

It's a ****ing GT4? You scrap that and you'll be BANNED!!!!

Just toss in a new engine. I've spent triple the amount that I've paid for my Celica. If you're never planning on selling it, then why does it matter how much you put into it, yah know?

I'd make a joke about your car smoking up on 4/20 but I'd feel bad. Really sorry to hear that man frown.gif but yeah, I would just source a new engine off eBay and swap it in if I were you. Or import a fresh one. Speaking of which, did you have that one imported yourself or did you buy it there?

No joke, if you decide to scrap it I'd gladly pay double the scrap price and come pick it up... You could look into a 4th gen 3S-GTE. They're a little cheaper than a 3rd gen, but you'll need to have some wiring work done. You're lucky enough to just be able to buy a 3rd gen with no trans or harness though so that will save you a lot of cash.

This. Daniel gets a Celica again, silver Faff at that, and Jeebus gets a "new" one. Everybody wins.
