I really want to repaint my car this summer. I plan on keeping the factory color. Since I live in NJ, it looks like any kind of decent run of the mill job will be $2,500+ unless I go the maaco route. A couple of body shops have quoted me over $3,500 and won't let me do my own prep. Given this kind of pricing, I'm tempted to do it myself. The car is a daily driver and it won't take much to get it looking better than it does right now so I'm not that worried about my abilities.
This will be my first time painting a whole car, but I have shot things like polyurethane for wood projects in the past. Here's my door sticker: ![]() After doing some searching I've figured out that I have Topaz Metallic Clearcoat (Cladding Color). What the heck is cladding color? Since I have a metallic that means that I will be shooting a basecoat and a separate clear coat, correct? How much paint would I need to buy? Door sills, engine bay, inside of hatch, etc are all not going to get touched. What's a good place to buy the paint, etc? Right now I'm thinking about paintscratch.com although they want around $350 for a gallon of basecoat. Thanks for any help anyone wants to throw my way ![]() |
