ok guys i know i'm opening a door here but i could use some help deciding what to do about my car, i had decided to part her out and but a swapped 96 i found in Origon but i didn't get the responce i needed out of the idea, i guess people are like me and broke! so my car still sits, i have sold a few spare items out of my closet but nothing off the car so i have options. The problem with the car is that i have lost 5th gear, when i select 5th i get nothing but the faint sound of grinding (like someone shaking a bag of metel pieces) so i need to replace it, i have a little money but not enough to do the work. i do however have some one looking into buying my projectors so here is my question....

do i....

A. sell the projectors and put the money into fixing the Transmission?

B. continue with the whole part out until i have the rest of the money for the 3sgte i saw and hope its still available?

C. give up on the whole idea completly and just drive the G6?

any thoughts would be appreciated as i have put everything on hold while i try and figure this out....

sell the projectors and fix the tranny, question you need to be asking is do you want it to be driveable or do you wanna look cool with your lights on at night?

well not even just that, its just that there will be options down the road for a swap or getting new projectors, being able to drive the 6gc comfortably is what should be the most important thing smile.gif

get a used tranny. Why fix this one, get a low mileage tranny from a wreck. too bad your to far way, shipping from this area is a killer, heck even a camry tranny can put you back in the road.

How were you justifying buying a swapped car if you do not have finances to spend much less on a task like fixing transmission?

Driving a swapped celi is not exactly cheap. They do eat gas. Mine gives me a steady 280 miles to a tank using 93 octane. Swapped cars also require maintenance which is not cheap either. Typical issues are broken engine mounts, blown turbos. Not that its typical for swapped cars to be money sinks but its certainly something worth considering.

Some people drive their 3s swaps like they were meant to be driven ;-p

On a serious note I meant that engines with more horse power and torque have a higher probability of breaking engine mounts than stock engines do. Not always but sometimes. I know several people, including myself who have a swap and had went through at least one set of replacement mounts.

Secondly I tried to reinforce a point that many people overlook. Some save for years then get a swap and complete it and realize that it costs an arm and a leg to drive cars like this.

Here is a good example.
My celi is driven at 12-16lbs and eats only 93 octane. Between 2007 and 2010 I paid probably a $1000 more in gas than other people would have. But I also drive long distances so it adds up to it.. either way in my area 93 octane costs 40 cents more per gallon than 87 does.

I remember when prices spiked up year and a half ago and my co-workers were crying about price of gas at 3.40 per gallon... while i was paying 4.05 and kept my mouth shut.

Knowing these things ahead of time can provide people a good reference point so that they could match their dream ride to their wallet size and not sell their freshly swapped cars as soon as they build them and costs start to add up.

PS pressure. the dragon is back.. he he he

N/A toyotas need valve seals - not a cheap job.

Just buy a used transmission and bolt it in. Then you can keep the projectors.

If you have another car to drive, why don't you wait until you have money to buy a working used transmission to replace your current one?

If your car has more problems then you can think of and If you have a nice running car already. Part out the Celica and scrap whatever is left. Its not worth the time and effort in something that will cause a lot of problems that will lead to more money spending unless you just want to turn it into a project car which then you can pour money down the drain.
