Would it be legal to swap in an obd II 5sfe into a 5th gen? Being that the 5th gen is obd I?

I have a friend with a 5th gen who needs a new engine...and I know there are a couple on here for sale...

fairly certain that is ok. usually the problem is when people put older engines in newer cars.
