so i needed a new alternator, so i bought one, put it in, made sure everythign was plgged in and was tight, and drove it. after like 20 min of driving i saw smoke comming from the hood and the positive output on the alternator, had a small flame on it. any ideas? never heard of this happeneind.

When you bought it did you make sure you got the right amount of amp output on it? (Which I believe is 80 amps)

Bring it back lol. This sort of happened to me, but idk if it is the same principals. I have a HO alt (250amp) and you cant charge a dead battery with it (like if you try to jump my car) or it will overheat, and smoke just like you were saying. I had to send mine in to get fixed, but maybe yours overheated as well? I dont think its common..if at all possible with a normal alternator? but just bring it back and be like I need a trade!

man i hate that! if i didnt need my old one (its common for my HO alt to burn up) I would send it to you lol. Go back and demand! a new one! if not ur money back
