I wouldn't think down shifting an auto would be bad for the motor.. or the trans. it does it on its own when you speed up, there made to do that.. wink.gif
edit: unless of course you went into 1st or something and over reved the engine.

When I'm down shifting with the auto, I always rev match because I don't like how it jerks the car when I shift. Unless I have to stop really fast, that's the only way I'll throw it into second and then first.

yeah, thats what i did when i drove a 5-speed. downshifting doesn't do anything bad to your car. if im wrong, i hope someone will correct me.

It doesn't. In daily driving, down shifting is just a way to slightly extend the life of your brake pads. Lightly feather your brakes to let people behind you know you're slowing down and rev match while you downshift so you don't get whiplash and you're golden.

You don't have to rev match as long as you don't dump the clutch... Just let out of it a little more slowly when you downshift. Downshifting does put a little bit more wear on the engine, but your engine will outlast your brake pads. And how do you rev-match an AUTO? It does that for you... confused.gif

hmm, i didn't even think of that, maybe he puts it in neutral and revs, then slips it down into a lower gear?

when you down shift on an auto (like when I'm going to stop at a light) it will jerk the car a ton when you shift to a lower gear.
to rev match with an auto while you're down shifting to slow down, hit the brake as usual, but ever so slight get on the gas so it rev's the engine up higher, then shift down a gear until you get to first and then come to a complete stop.

BTW, this is just to get into the habit of shifting for when I get the manual swap done. I know I don't need to rev match it, but my car jerks more than a mofo
